Got installed on the island - MEP-803a

So doing my math with the AC, the LRA is 78 amps - 26 amps over normal capacity for the 803a That’s 150% loading. If I got a hard start capacitor for the AC I should see my issue go away? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Got installed on the island - MEP-803a

The 6/3 has a ground wire as well. I have that routed to the ground rod at the base of the meter panel. Wires are cool to the touch (I have a boat that has two 30a lines that are 10/3 and have seen those get really hot!) I never thought about measuring the volts, hz and amps at the house but...

Got installed on the island - MEP-803a

Gotcha. If I'm at 240 at the panel, then that is still within the range of the AC unit (208-230)

Got installed on the island - MEP-803a

that is correct. I pulled the meter, disconnected the wires to the house and attached it to the generator with polaris connectors. Wire from generator to connectors is 6/3 and the generator sits next to the power panel. Power panel is approx. 600' from the house and is wired with 1.0 or...

Got installed on the island - MEP-803a

I thought that too but why would it run for 6+ hours with no issues and then shut down after everything else in the house is turned off but the ceiling fans? 4 ceiling fans running should only be about 3 amps at most. Perhaps I need to look into a soft start kit for the A/C?

Got installed on the island - MEP-803a

I'm in the process of procuring a couple of gallons of oil, filters and a belt to bring over on my next trip on the 23rd. You mean data plate of the A/C? I just happen to have that! Shows: Unit supply 208-230V 1PH 60hz Compressor 208-230v 1PH 60hz 18.8 RLA 78 LRA Fan Motor 208-230v 1PH 60HZ...

Got installed on the island - MEP-803a

This is what doesn't make sense. The measured 26A was measured with the compressor running yesterday. The previous night before it shut down, it had been running for a bunch of hours and there was no other load other than a couple of ceiling fans.

My load gauge doesn’t appear to work. That’s why I asked about the amperage per leg. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Got installed on the island - MEP-803a

No. I put a load on it with two ovens running at 400 degrees for about 2 hours. It is the first time though that the set has run for anything longer than two hours. I unfortunately did not have much of a choice. The opportunity for it to get shipped on a barge came up much quicker than I...

Got installed on the island - MEP-803a

If I’m doing my math right, 26A per line equals 52A total. With just the air conditioner running I was pulling 26A on one line. Does this mean that I’m at 100% load? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Got installed on the island - MEP-803a

Thank you. Here is some more info on the mess - When I first hooked it up and started it, there was a heavy bog down. I figured this was due to the Air conditioner and fridge trying to come on at once. I shut everything off in the house and started the generator back up. I then slowly...

Got installed on the island - MEP-803a

That's a great question. On our island (3 miles long) everybody knows everybody (any most are related) so we are generally pretty secure. The last thing that was "stolen" was a VHF handheld radio that a kid took. Everybody knows the kid so the next adult who saw him walking down the street...

Got installed on the island - MEP-803a

Some of you may have read my previous post about my purchase of an 803a to bring over to the Bahamas for use as a primary power source for a house until they get power supplied. I won the auction for the lofty sum of $375. A couple of batteries and a new relay later and I have a total of...

    MEP-803A no AC output

I agree it looks like oil seepage from somewhere. The engine was clean and dry when I started it. I did swap out the worthless hertz gauge though. Now also thinking about getting a digital amp/load meter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    MEP-803A no AC output

Thanks all. I borrowed a double oven today and put both ovens to bake at 400 degrees. After 2 hours and no hiccups, I turned everything off. The generator ran great. I swapped out the analog hertz meter with a digital one and it held 240-242v at 60 hz the entire time. The load meter...

    MEP-803A no AC output

Yes. It goes from running solid to dying off like it’s starving for fuel after about 5- 10 seconds. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    MEP-803A no AC output

Before posting, I actually let the prime run for 5 minutes (counted) before trying. Same thing happened.
