Rebuilding after 15 years of storage

Where do those "Front Fender to Cab" seals go?

Anybody know what this (and leaking)?

    Vent for the rear differential?

    Hard Start Issue

Yeah, I hear ya on the IP Rick, but I am going to check everything else (cheaper stuff first) first. If after I go down the list and find out it is the IP, then I'll cry, get beat up by the wife and then I guess I'll give Badger Diesel a call, unless someone else has a more reliable place to...

    Military Vic Serves Again

I don't think he is "that type" of an intel guy. Probably a desk jockey working local economic and routine political issues. Otherwise he never would have mentioned anything about intel to begin with. That said, the blend in mantra still applies.

    Hard Start Issue

Well, had a doctors appointment yesterday and got 12"+ of snow overnight (and still coming down), so I didn't do much to troubleshoot yesterday. However, I did verify that the fuel line is attached to the IP and that there is no fuel in the valley. I will next check to see if I am getting fuel...

Replacement aluminum heater core low heat output idea

While the outbound flow restriction sounds good, wouldn't that prevent in coming circulation of what little fresh hot water is coming into the heater core? If fluid is moving outbound slowly, inbound wouldn't be refreshing the core with the hottest water available? At least that's how I think...

Squibbly's M1009 and other Questionable Projects

There is just a screw, like yours, on mine. I believe that is the go to fix for the indicator. Maybe some sort of metal feral (sp) may help, but the cable could squeeze between the head of the screw and the feral or the feral and the panel and would bind up, maybe even snap the cable.

    Hard Start Issue

The glow plugs have been replaced, so I don't think that could be a cause, but thanks for the info. I am going to check out the fuel line to the IP.

Thanks for that tip. I did have the supply hose replaced and will make sure it is still in place once the rain stops.

    Recirculating Coolant Heater?

I thought there was an older thread on this and that it couldn't be done because of the way our coolant is routed. I have used these types of heaters on my older diesel VW's with really good results and would love to put one on my 1009. I hope someone finds a way.

Not sure where you'll be going (and in most "hot spots" you can't bring your POV anyway), what you will be doing (intel??) or for whom you be doing whatever for, but take the advice of the folks above. Leave the Born in the USA truck in VA and get some cheap POS that belongs in the environment...

Replacement aluminum heater core low heat output idea

Don't forget, diesels are cold blooded to begin with. When the temps drop down into the 20's (and south of that). Heat in the cab will be tough to find, no matter how good the heater core is. That is why they made those Arctic heater kits and a lot of us that live in colder areas out winter...

    Hard Start Issue

So, I drove my truck back from PA (a 6 hour drive) a few weeks ago and have been using the truck every few days after that. Everything seemed to be running as it should. Even a few days ago, when the temps dropped into the 20's, she fired right up on the first crank. Over the weekend I gave...

    M1009 Wipers

Not parking her. Got those cheap Autozone seat heaters, my "winter front" and 300lbs of sand in the rear. I do Fluid Film on the entire underside of the truck before winter and hit it with Salt Away in the spring. No need (and kinda a waste) to park her for months. I do want to do heated...

    M1009 Wipers

It is my winter grill cover. Inexpensive Home Depot pipe insulation and a few zip ties. I do it every winter. It makes a difference in the amount of heat I can squeeze out of her in the winter. Diesels are fairly cold blooded and combined with no insulation inside, she can stay a bit of the...

    M1009 Wipers

So, pulled the cowl, cleaned out beneath the screens and lubed everything. Removed the arm from the ball too and lubed that. Arms move a bit easier now, but nothing that really made a difference. I did mark the hood hinge and just loosened the two bolts that hold it in position, then removed...

    M1009 Wipers

Yup, windshield was wet. Wipers are just really slow. It is supposed to hit 50 here over the next two days. I will try and pull the cowl cover and lube everything up. Here is a pic of the old motor, which was also slow (so I am thinking linkage could cause the sluggishness).

    M1009 Wipers

Yup, as soon as the rain stops and the sun come out, I am going to remove the cowl cover and clean and lube all the rotating parts.

    M1009 Wipers

Ok, so earlier this week the temp was up around 45 and it was sunny out. A good day to get the motor changed out. Work was straight forward and the job took a total of about 30 minutes. The one bolt attachment was fairly easy. Now, new motor and a lifetime warrantee from AutoZone. And it...

    M1009 Wipers

Damn ! That's a good price. Ordered mine yesterday, FedEx dropped it off about 10 minutes ago. Paid more, but all good.
