Converting m939a1 to electric cooling fan

To answer your question, no I haven’t tried it on a 5 ton. But I have tried it with a 5.9 Cummins dodge and seen a few people do the same....it doesn’t work. Mechanical fans move an exorbitant amount of air. Electric fans just don’t.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

    Thank you!

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Wow that should be a monster when you get it together. I’m going Monday to search for a transmission. I plan to pull the cab off and do most of it from the top since I’ll be in a barn on a dirt floor. I might start a thread on it once I get the cab off. I’ll be pretty much committed then.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Thankfully no. I start at a paper mill in a couple weeks. My wrenching days are over. Same here. I researched dual 14.00s and it looked extremely cost prohibitive. I’m planning on buying a 13 speed for this truck next week. I think you are the one that at least started a similar project didn’t...

Used mine to bring my tool box home from work today.

    M923a2 Transmission

That’s what I’m thinking at this point. Any idea on an average cost to rebuild one? I can pull it out myself but I’d have to pay to get it rebuilt. And thanks for letting me know. Memphis is quite a drive unfortunately.

    M923a2 Transmission

I’ll try it tomorrow. What do you think about the backwards jerk when starting?

    M923a2 Transmission

I should be able to try low range tomorrow. Would letting it shift through the gears with the transfer case in neutral first be of any help? I’m kinda afraid to get it back on the road. I’m in fall branch. Almost as far east as you can go in TN.

    M923a2 Transmission

Pulled the governor filter out. Perfectly clean. Pulled the governor out and didn’t see any obvious problems. But the fluid that came out was drastically different from what’s on the dipstick. Looks and smells expensive. It does have atf in it by the way.

    M923a2 Transmission

Thank you. I will try to do that next week. I’ll have to bring a pressure gauge home from work. In the meantime I think I’ll pull that governor filter out and have a look. According to that guy, governor pressure is related to road speed so in my mind it would make sense to lose higher gears...

    M923a2 Transmission

I just bought an m923a2 a couple weeks ago. Drove it 250 miles home and have put 100 miles on it since. The transmission has shifted flawlessly. Today I took off in it and it wouldn’t go into 5th gear. So I headed back home in 4th and then lost that one too. It downshifted to 3rd by itself and...

    Finding TDC the easy way.

FYI, if you want to find when cyl 1 is at tdc on compression stroke just watch cyl 6. When the exhaust valve is almost closed and the intake valve is just starting to open (valve overlap), #1 is at the top. This applies to any in line 6 engine.

    Outer Wheel Seal

I bought a deuce recently with a bad gear oil leak at the left rear wheels. I assumed it was just a wheel seal with oil bath bearings like a modern truck. After doing some research here, I discovered it’s totally different. So anyway I tore it down today to figure out what’s going on but I...
