    M977 HEMTT Acquisition

Yes, I figured there could be a lot of them out there... I'm bringing both types of filters and the adapter kit so I am prepared either way, since I'm going to service my HEMTT on the side of the road. The spin-ons on your engines should be adapters, there are none factory that I am aware...

    M977 HEMTT Acquisition

There was some discussion earlier in this thread about canister engine oil filters vs. spin on... The vast majority of (if not all) 2-cycle Detroit Diesels, all series, had canister filters and so far as I know, there are NO military Detroit Diesel engines with factory spin on filters. The...

Any cdl drivers needing ride from Kansas to California after the first of the year?

Great info, thanks! The HEMTT does have slack adjusters, but your other points are still valid. I wonder how much it would cost, in both time and money, to get the class A through a truck driving school?... I don't have a civilian truck to take the test in, and I'd like to be able to legally...

Any cdl drivers needing ride from Kansas to California after the first of the year?

Where did you get that information? I've been reading the CDL handbook in preparation for the exam, and I was told by Barstow DMV that I will become qualified on whatever vehicle I bring to the drive test, and nothing more. So if I bring my HEMTT I will be restricted to automatic...

    Deuce seat covers

I thought for a second I'd blend up a batch myself, for my own use, but the Chemical Abstracts Service says quarpel is 1-(((1-Oxooctadecyl)amino)methyl)pyridinium chloride. Soooo, I guess not. Jon

    Deuce seat covers

I like that smell too... It's a little strong when you first open up a sealed bag of NOS canvas, but I miss it after its faded away. I never knew it was called quarpel... It doesn't seem to be sold anymore, I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for an old surplus 5-gallon bucket of it! Jon

    1,680 mile HEMTT recovery

Now that sounds like fun! The amount of fun I will be able to have on this trip is inversely proportional to the amount of problems I encounter. Hopefully I'll be able to take my time and have fun, rather than change a transmission on the side of the road and make a bee-line for home. There...

    1,680 mile HEMTT recovery

Thanks for the pdf... I'm familiar with the Bus Nuts group, one of my best friends has bus fever the same way we have MV fever. I know, I don't understand it either, but they look at us like we're crazy the same way we look at them. He's coming with me on my HEMTT recovery just as I have gone...

    1,680 mile HEMTT recovery

Driving it is the most economical (and most fun) way to get such a large truck from so far away... Even at only 3 mpg, fuel would be less than $1400. Shipping would be my last resort... I would sooner have it towed to the closest willing SS member's house, return with repair parts, and continue...

    1,680 mile HEMTT recovery

If engine damage was done, it will show up as oil slobber coming out of the air box drains. If you're not leaving a little puddle everywhere you go, you're probably fine! Contrary to what some on this site claim, "Driptroits" DO NOT leak oil any worse than any other diesel engine of the era...

    1,680 mile HEMTT recovery

Well, I went to find the DD oil bulletin that showed the liner scuff tests and it is gone, it was on my old computer that died, and the site I downloaded it from, Tejas Coach, no longer posts it for copyright reasons. However I am attaching the API oil guide that shows the CF-2 spec as the only...

So I just bought a HEMTT....

So your A2 has the DDEC IV electronics? Is there a screen for it in the cab or do you have to plug it in to a computer? I think I'd dial it down if it were mine, or at least check... Maybe it's jacked up sky high. We certainly don't need 500 hp running down the highway empty, and it might...

So I just bought a HEMTT....

Yeah, I accept that, but I'm curious if I'm going to spend $1000 on fuel, or $2000. roflWith fuel economy so low, even a little improvement makes a huge difference!

    m35 transmission noise..

Instead of the come-along, I use one of the cute little chain hoists for changing tires that come with the 900 series 5-tons...

    1,680 mile HEMTT recovery

Thanks! I'm so excited to go get it I can hardly stand it. Thank goodness no damage was done! I guess a little idling, and loading and unloading it didn't generate enough heat... That's normal... 2-cycle Detroits have a relatively low pressure, high volume oil system. A perfectly healthy...

How to roll out after auction

I agree with this. I'm a fan of "driving it home," I enjoy the adventure, but you have to be prepared for the worst. I'm planning a 1,680 mile HEMTT recovery trip, but I'm bringing two friends and a chase vehicle loaded with tools and supplies, and I've got 5 weeks of paid vacation at work and...

So I just bought a HEMTT....

Great truck! I'm waiting on the EUC for mine, and then I'll be making a similar journey from Ft. Polk, LA to Southern California. What kind of miles per gallon did you average? How long did your EUC take (if it was your first)? Regards, Jon

What is a HEMTT really worth?

Haha, that one is MINE! I'm waiting on the EUC with a planned recovery trip for the first week of January. I had never thought I'd own a HEMTT, because even though I technically had the money to pay the higher pre-market-saturation prices, I couldn't justify spending it on a truck. That money...

Deuce Trip from MD to CA

That's too bad, I was looking forward to hearing about that trip... Practicality and common sense be ****ed!

    Drafted

So it's flooding in Leesville? What about Ft. Polk, do you think my HEMTT is safe? I'm waiting on the EUC, picking it up probably first week of January. Jon
