Going to try to make it at least for the day tomorrow. If not in an MV, then in my brother's jeep.

    Air Tools

I carry a 3/4" impact wrench, a crank-type torque multiplier and a set of impact sockets. The impact wrench can often break the lug nuts loose on its own. If not, then I use the torque multiplier to break the nut loose and then spin it off with the impact wrench. You have to stop every lug...

    M51a2 dump truck towing capacity

A trailer with air brakes has an actuator or "can" for each wheel or set of wheels. These are basically the same size no matter the capacity of the axle. Two axles would have four cans while a three axle trailer would have six. Honestly, you'd be better off getting a newer truck to use as your...

    M51a2 dump truck towing capacity

I think what Doghead is referring to is the fact that the M54 series trucks are designed to pull trailers that also have air over hydraulic brakes, just like the truck itself. The air system on these trucks does not supply enough air to safely supply a trailer with full air brakes. Now you...

    M51a2 dump truck towing capacity

From our own technical manuals section: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/upload/5Ton/TM9-2320-211-10.pdf The maximum allowable towed load on the highway is 30,000 lbs for the M51A2 and 15,000 lbs cross country. This assumes working and adequate brakes on the trailer. Like snowtrac nome says, you...

Added gasoline to diesel tank - how much is bad?

I agree with the two-stroke oil recommendation. Since you only put 3 gallons in, you're talking 3.75% gasoline in an 80 gallon tank. Not much to worry about.

    Tmg off-road adventure weekend

The road into this spot looks pretty good. Do you think a motor home would make it to the camp site? I'm thinking of inviting my brother - so I can sleep in the motor home. Thanks!

    NorCal owners

Not to veer too far off subject, but here is a funny Basque story: Years ago my dad and some friends were going on a trip to Ely, Nevada. A friend of ours who wasn't going on the trip, but who had spent time in Ely, told my dad that there was a great Basque restaurant in town that they all...

I second what ODFever says. Trailer brakes are always nice, even surge brakes.

    Passenger mirror problems

Try switching sides, just to be sure. The lower mount might need a little "persuasion" with a big hammer to clear. Army mechanics do this all the time.

    Big Bend NP Get Together?

My mom and I went on a trip to Big Bend about 30 years ago in our VW Bus. The bus did great off road except for deep blow sand. We met a guy from Beaumont, Texas who had driven almost as far to get to Big Bend as we had from California. We were there in early April and had one day in the 80's...
