Howdy all! Been some time since I've been able to visit or mess with my MV's but finally glad to get back on here. I'm starting a bit of a fun project in dressing out an '84 VW Jetta as a Bundeswehr or Luftwaffe auxiliary vehicle and am trying to find the correct code or description for the...
thanks trukhead! I'll doc with pics for FW comparison, look mostly same with obvious exception of brake MC, fuel filter and A/C plenum. Going with Racor spin-on fuel filter, frame mounted. Like the 924's in the background! My pics would have 5 XR4Ti's, lol!
lol, yeah, i've got WAY too many projects! Fortunately donor truck is a florida truck, no rust, and PO prepped well for paint before deciding to part out so it's straight and in primer. Hopefully 1/2 ton cabs mount the same as CUCV cabs! Planning on painting desert and markings for MacDill...
Been a while but I'm finally back to working on my M1028 that got rolled while in transport on a trailer, crushing the cab. I picked up an '86 Silverado parts truck some time ago, good straight 1/2 ton 2WD with no drivetrain, as a donor. So, having never performed a cab swap before I'd...
I've had my share of no-title vehicles, abandoned vehicles, recovery vehicles etcetera... Right now working on titles for 15 vehicles abandoned in my storage yard, so they know me at the title office! ;-) But I'll always accept and profess my ignorance which is why I ask those more...
Okay, search didn't yield much for me on this particular scenario although I'd bet a few here have either encountered it personally or no of someone who has: I'm interested in a CUCV that was purchased through GL but the buyer didn't get SF97 and/or title, also no EUC for what it's worth. My...
Yup, that's the part! Basically a brass tee on a bracket mounted to the axle. It's item number 34 on the attached diagram. Local NAPA, at least three of them, has no clue. Then again, they've all got kids working there now that don't even know you can get stuff in 24V!
So, yeah, if you can...
Spent about an hour with search looking for a parts source and wasn't successful, so early apologies if there are threads on this. Basically, took the deuce down the road to top off the newly sandblasted and repainted fuel tank when I lost the brakes on the way back. The front line went out...
Thanks to all who contributed info as it was a great help. Got the new line in and flushed/bled the system with fresh BFS. It'll lock 'em all up now! So now that it'll stop I got a Florida antique plate today and called Gulfway to add to my policy, so we're now legal to roll. Woohoo...
No worries and no offense taken, I get a rash of it from all my HCEA and Caterpillar pals all the time!
As for the line rot, I'd suspect that the vibration causes the clip to wear the line then the subsequent corrosion accelerated the deterioration. Thanks for the DOT5 reminder, just...
Har har. Done plenty of brake work over the years (used to own a restoration shop) but very little brake line work. Just one of those things ya never really notice the particulars of if you don't fiddle with much.
Thanks mush for the helpful info. Not so much for the...
Yike! Hold the flair there Francis! :P I've got the flare kit, just had hoped to get the pre-made up deal already flared with fittings. My local wholesale parts place has a big section on the wall with all sizes and such up to about 8', so if no one knows exactly at least that part I can...
Apologies, I typically keep separate issues to separate threads as my other question pertained specifically to the rubber hoses in the system. My search terms were "steel brake line" specifically in the deuce forum. After looking through the first few pages of results without success I decided...
The search function again hasn't proven very fruitful for this one: In flushing/bleeding the brake system today I found the steel line to the rear axle was leaking just above the spare tire. Looks like right at the frame clamp, likely a combination of corrosion and wear. So, anyone know the...
Appreciate the info, but I'm not trying to re-invent the wheel. I can essentially get a full set of Aeroquip braided stainless lines with fittings for FREE as opposed to ordering the kit. Sure, the original lines are fine but if I can get better for less then why not? Was just hoping someone...
Errr... So of the 5 hoses 3 are different? Or there are 8 hoses, of which are different? Basically I've a friend that can make up Aeroquip hoses and instead of getting the 5 hose "kit" I thought to use the stainless braided hose as I'm getting parts together to overhaul the brake system. The...
Posted in another thread but no response and search hasn't yet yielded this info, so here goes: Does anyone know the fitting size on the rubber brake hoses? I'd rather ask before removing a hose just to play with the pitch gauge! Thanks!
