Update: I have pulled a few loads since I installed the hitch. Probably 3-5000 #s of logs being the heaviest. I just took it slow and checked for loose bolts every time I stopped. The safety chains hook up the same way as on the pintle and everything worked out fine. I never welded the 1/4 inch...
Thanks guys, Last time I was under there and tried to grease the U joints I found they were not greasable, no zerks anyway. I will check for play and loose bolts. It's an 86 1008 btw. For a while she was squeaking when backing up, but that seems to have passed. The clunk is more of clink...
I have a new driveline vibe that doesn't make much sense to me. I hope it is just U joints, but here is how it presents:
At 55 mph cruising speed everything is normal, loud but normal. Then, if I let off the throttle just a little to try to maintain 55 I get a medium vibration through the...
I think it cost me around 450 for mine. Brass, 5 core, all the fittings for engine and trans oil and fit perfectly. Got it online from wherever, but it replaced a 3 core that was in there and has been cooling great ever since. Just be really careful attaching the engine oil lines. Because they...
15 minutes to work everyday and any trip to and around town. I've only put around 8000 miles on her in the past few years, but given the option the 1008 comes with me over the Subaru or the VW. The sound alone makes it all worthwhile.don't know why the pictures come in upside down. Just roll...
Oh boy, one more on a long list of reasons to get out of this state. My inspection costs ten bucks and my 1008 passes with ease, even without an exhaust system once.
I got most of the wiring run for my additional lights. I ended up using one of those piggy back add a fuse dealies installed in the headlight fuse socket. I will post up pictures when I get time. As of now the off road lights will only work when the headlights are on and the service light...
I made this up last year. Made a plywood template and hit it with the plasma cutter. It uses all of the pintle bolt locations it can and many more 1/2" bolts through the 3/8" plate. As I said, I don't tow a lot so I haven't had much weight on it, but it will be as strong as the pintle hitch...
I was thinking of making a short jumper wire to go in between the back of the switch terminal and the wiring terminal on harness itself on both sides of the switch. Then T off that patch wire over to my new switches somewhere in line to the underhood relay.
If I ever want to convert back to...
I'm a pretty sarcastic guy, too. Someday they'll invent some new punctuation to indicate sarcasm.
Thanks again. I'll check out the classifieds. I don't have much experience with them yet.
Cheers, Gonz
Cool, me too. As I said, the flashlight taped to the steering column was running low on batteries so this project came about just in time. BTW does anybody have 2 blackout toggle switches for sale?
That's the great thing about SSoldiers. The first post reminded me to start with the basics. As penance for my naïveté I thought I would share what I learned and what was involved in pulling the dash apart. It must be nice to never have to ask for advice.
Ta da! That's why I love this community! I don't even have my multimeter at my house so I swapped over known good bulbs from other gauges and sure enough, let there be light. On the far left socket I had to remove said socket and scuff up the contacts to get it to work. I can't see back there...
While I'm under the dash wiring up my off road lights I might as well address my lack of gauge lights.
The gen1, gen2, 4wd, low oil pressure, voltmeter, heater control and idiot lights all work. The speedo and fuel gauges do not light.
I've checked the fuse, it's fine. The under dash light...
I am in the process of adding four 100watt off road lights to the DR. She'll have two forward facing and two rearward facing and they will be on separate switches.
This is all very basic stuff, but I would like to retain the service light kill switch function in this install.
I am planning...
