Mile Marker 24v 12,000lb multi mount winch install

Brings back fond memories of my winch install...I'm surprised they make a factory front hitch

    Diy Winch Install

Thanks again Truck1. I'm definitely going to try to get those from HF. That's a pretty stiff cable and there's not much room on the diameter of the spool before it jams up on the bars. P.S. it's 50* today and raining like a son of a.... heres the picture I promised

Whats this and where does it go?

I just ran across that wire too. After determining that it got no volts with headlights, wipers, blackout, etc, I decided it was hacked in by a PO. Interesting to hear the truth.

    Diy Winch Install

What are the spring loaded bars visible in pictures 2 & 3? They definitely didn't come with my harbor freight 12k. Wow, it helps to read the entire post first, huh. Apologies. Nice install. Btw both the chrome lever and tie bars are starting to rust on mine. I'll throw up a picture tomorrow...

    Diy Winch Install

I got my truck stuck in a mud hole last weekend and winched out while under power. Tore up my lawn, but the Harbor Freight winch saved me from having to call my Pinzgauer buddy. I guess some of them work and some don't. Not the best situation with 3 and a half tons of metal stuck somewhere...

Thermostat gasket, need it or RTV it

JW, That's smart. I should have some gasket material on hand as well.

Thermostat gasket, need it or RTV it

I don't think I could handle Bieber coming to my house. I'll get a real gasket if it still leaks. I'm pretty sure you don't have to use RTV, my first gasket was a peel and stick dealie which was nice since it holds the t stat in place while you put the housing on. The threads in the manifold...

Thermostat gasket, need it or RTV it

Alright, alright, I have installed my new ronzoni box gasket! I'll keep yas posted, cheers, Gonz

Thermostat gasket, need it or RTV it

I'm putting a new radiator in the 1008 and trying to fix a leaky t stat housing. Of course the gasket ripped when I removed the housing and I'm wondering if there is a thickness or shim aspect to the gasket as well as to seal, or if I can just hank it up with RTV and move on with my life. The...

    Diy Winch Install

Beautiful welds and a very slick setup! I put that same winch on the front of my truck. So far it's worked well. I left mine exposed because if you are pulling anything off of straight away the cable can get hopelessly jammed up on one side of the spool. I hope this isn't what people mean by...

Can anyone vouch for this hydroboost (Cardone 52-7248)

I put a Cardone hydro boost in my 1008 about a year ago. I would sporadically lose power assist and after replacing the pump failed to fix the problem I swapped the booster. It works fine and fixed my problem. The hardest part of install was removing the large nut that secures the unit to the...

    Recent M1008 Projects

Thanks for the tip. Pictures would be great as I can't quite visualize the issue , except that broken welds and towing equals bad news. I'll go over all the brackets again before pulling anything more than a deer rack. My bracket also bolts the 3/8 plate to the sheet metal bumbler in a few...

trailer hitch Here's a picture of my trailer hitch. The bumper is so solidly mounted to the truck that I figured bolting/welding this plate to the bottom would be sufficient for most of my needs (maybe 4000#s)

    Recent M1008 Projects

I was looking at the ORD winch bumper, but for what it was it was expensive. My mount bolts in using all four of the factory bolts that hold on the shackle stubs. I figure if it ties both of the frame horns together then there's no need to weld it in. I obviously had to cut the bumper but...

Winch type Thanks! It's a Harbor Freight 12K (Badlands). I've always been down on them, but it was on sale for something like $320. I couldn't pass it up. I've used it a fair amount and I have to say it's pretty good. Usually I'm pulling down hung up trees in the woods and skidding logs out...

    Recent M1008 Projects

I have been glued to this site ever since I got my ’86 M1008 a year and a half ago. I really can’t say enough about how helpful everyone is and the sheer volume of knowledge contained here. After my first trip to NAPA and the glazed stare I get when I say ‘It’s kinda like an ’86 K30’ I dove...

    Axle grinding sound.

So, I know I’m late to the party on this, but it can be tricky to diagnose driveline problems by yourself. You just can’t see underneath and drive at the same time. I recently lost front wheel drive(thanks for the Detroit rear in M1008s for getting me through the winter). First step is to put...

    Winch on a 1008

I'm sure this is buried somewhere on the site, but if I want to run a 12V winch on a stock M1008, can I just run the leads to the front battery 12V? Or do I have to run wires back to the junction blocks on the firewall? Thanks for the help.
