What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

No lions tigers or bears, but I did rollover the odometer on my M1009 which isn't a really big deal but I did manage to do as I pulled into the parking structure at work so I could record the event.

My CUCV spin on fuel filter mod

drewzee87t, my set up is post #236 and nothing that many others have done before me. I had real headaches with losing prime and was determined to solve the problem because I didn't like running the starter so much and getting out over and over to bleed air out of the fuel line every morning. I...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

cummins7, all you need to do is make up part numbers and assign an insane price and it will be just like something the government would have purchased, very nicely done!

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

BUGOUT2, that looks real nice, are the parts from a CUCV or your own mods? I have a 1980 K-5 as well as a 1986 M1009, so far the 1980 is a bit more over built with an 8 lug Dana 44 in the front and a 14 bolt full floater 8 lug in the rear with 4 wheel disc brakes, a manual SM-465 transmission...

Swfb, also check the lamp sockets, pieces of the metal contacts break off in the socket and short across the pins on the lamp and make weird things happen.

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Ahab, is that an AA meeting, in this case it is "Automobiles Anonymous"; Hi I'm Craig and I haven't bought a vehicle for 2 months........ (no disrespect to AA intended what so ever.) But I can truly understand "whataduece" and being in Southern Washington I was looking at the aerial photo and...

    Dual fuel tank install

Firefox, for whats its worth I just used "1/2" NPT, 3-way, 24v AC/DC, Motorized Ball valve, Stainless Steel / PTFE 3-wire" on one of the well known on-line sales sites and found it fairly quickly. More than likely it was the exact item Rusty mentioned but the seller may be selling thru multiple...

    Dual fuel tank install

Thanks Rustystud, for both the update on your health and the 3-way valve for the dual fuel tank install. I was looking for a manual 3 way valve but I for the cost a motorized stainless steel valve is better it is easier to keep the plumbing out of the cab, it just isn't that big.............

What did you do to your deuce this week?

"They are nothing more than lengths of pipe, in a way, but just with airfoils added where needed." Now that sounds like you are describing a can of "Red Bull" even the blue and silver in your picture backs it up.

Like any of us thinks that engine will ever be anything but clean................................when you are "carried away" that far there is no coming back, LOL. Beautiful attention to detail is what makes it so special, really a joy to follow your progress.

I still think Sharecropper needs a clear hood, I agree it is just too pretty to hide.

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Wow, I didn't mean to de-rail this thread with a mention of Safety Wire but I have to say I sure enjoyed the stories, brought back lots of memories. Only 3 years working on UH-1 Helicopters (Hueys) in the Army but it has had a lot of influence on my life.

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Ahab, you posted about the consistent twists for nice looking safety wire work, it can be done by hand but pliers like these make it much easier if your are going to be doing very much. Not real expensive either but not much use for anything but their intended purpose.

What did you do to your deuce this week?

In some cases it isn't too crazy to buy some cross drilled head bolts and safety wire as done on aircraft to keep thing from "flying" apart.

Metric or SAE, it is when on a given vehicle they chose to use both sometimes with metric threads and an SAE head. I figured it was some kind of exercise program so I would have to get out from under a vehicle the maximum number of times for any task. Even stuff from China, I have a "Hazard...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Ahab, that looks like what I need, think it is like JB Weld but you are right is will eliminate the liquid problems of epoxy resin and most likely stronger because the liquid resin would be too much space between bonded surfaces. That will be a nice reasonably priced experiment. Regardless it...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Privatewrench, I never though of a steering wheel cover and at $20 it would be on par with the cost to epoxy the cracks, sanding, using tape or something to make a form and of course one at a time since the epoxy will want sag/flow until it sets up. I will look into that. I did find one for...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Finally got the rest of the stuff out of the back of my Deuce (wheels/tires, a jeep transmission/transfer case, jeep differentials, leaf springs) and cleaned out the dirt and spilled oil that was making "super mud" that didn't allow rain water to drain out. Making a 3 point turn that was more of...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

For basically a stripped truck they were quite expensive. But what Uncle Sam got was all the heavy duty off the shelf parts that would fit on the particular vehicle and a few items mentioned like the 24 volt/12 volt electrical system that were unique to satisfy the need to be NATO compatible for...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Rutjes, The hydro-boost brakes in the M1009 and the M1028 do a great job. I have no problem locking all four corners so the braking is limited by the tires and the grip they have on the road, not really by the brakes. Long down hills can heat the lining up to the point they can no longer...
