Freedom Vehicles Gama Goat Recovery, Restoration, Project

S&E is still open, but they don't have a fraction of what they used to. Inside towards the front is a regular hardware store/gun shop/clothing/outdoor type of place. In the back part of the store is where all the "surplus" is. 20-30 years ago, outside they had acres of lots, all filled with...

Hard to find Goat antenna bracket!!

I don't think this should anger the moderator gods, (if so, I apologize) but I just found a rare rear carrier antenna mount for a Goat on Epay. It isn't actually marked for a Goat, but for an "armor truck"--BUT-- it is in fact for a Goat. Do a search for military antenna mounts, and one...

    M561/M792 Gama Goat VIC-1 VRC-12

I have a VIC1 mounted, and the VRC series installed. Very different from a MUTT mount. The mount shown goes on either side of the front of the carrier. The ones that go on the back of the rear carrier-over the tail lights--are harder to find, and the one that goes on the front fender is stupid...

    Tire Wear/Electrical

73m819 speaks the truth, straight as arrow driven into the wind. Fun for parades, shows, etc. I have a yard full of MV's. The Goat is the most fun to drive around. Around town that is. The farthest I have ever driven mine is about 40 miles. Half on the interstate, and half in town. That was...

    Gama gama hey!

I know how to take digital photos, and know how to send them to an email address, but as soon as the darn " hosting" or "photobucket" thing shows up......game over. I tried it a couple of times. It wasn't pretty.

    Gama gama hey!

You guys are killin' me here. I am going to have to figure out how to post pics of my comm-rig after all. BTW: I have an extra articulating antenna mount that bolts on top of the S 250 shelter, if ya' need one.

    Operation "URGENT RESTORATION"

So a 900 series steering wheel bolts right on, and is close to the original size? Mine is shot, and I am in dire need of a replacement.

    Connie the Chevy powered goat.

A handful of years ago there was a guy with w real German name-----"something-meister", (Wernermeister maybe?) that had a Chevy-powered Goat. As I recall, I think he was also the guy that he took a carrier from another Goat and made a trailer, which really looked cool---like an 8 wheeled Goat...

Diamond in the rough or just plain rough??

It would appear I am the lone dissenting voice here. I would seriously consider it -at the least- a parts rig. However, no where near $4000. I would offer him 5 $100 bills, (in $20's), as the transfer case, trans, heck, even the engine might be save-able. Ya' never know....after a weekend of...

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

I do remember the valve replacement instead of the drain plug was on the old Gama Goat website. I think that's where I heard of it (and promptly did it). I would advise strongly to NOT use a cheap chinese valve!

    Recent Goat threads/interests.

m38inmaine, that is the uber rare, made out of unobtainium, Goat radio shelf I was talking about. (There are actually two widths, that one appears to be the narrow one of the two.) The MT1029 mount bolts to that shelf. As I recall, that shelf should also have the holes pre-drilled for the...

    Recent Goat threads/interests.

Computers and I don't really get along. Posting pictures exceeds the capabilities of my web-fu. The next time my daughter comes over, (she is the family computer geek), I will run it by her. I would love to post pictures of my Goat. I haven't done much in my life I can brag about, but...

    Recent Goat threads/interests.

How rude of me. I have what appears to be the only restored communications model-without an S250 shelter. When I bought it, it had a bunch of holes drilled into the carrier seat area (which as we all know extra holes are common to military vehicles....Bubba must have attacked this one prior to...

    Recent Goat threads/interests.

As Goat owner myself, I just want to say it certainly is refreshing to see the recent increase in Goat postings. As I've said before, I sure do miss the old GamaGoat.com (no offense to the SS site). I really do believe Goats are a special breed of MVs. Of all the MVs I own, the Goat is my...

    Operation "URGENT RESTORATION"

Wait a minute..............................5 ton steering wheels are the same as a Goat steering wheel? Which 5 ton? I would imagine the M54 series, as that would be about the same time frame.

    VIC-1 Question

(And technically speaking, I think the MX7777 becomes an MX7778 once you attach the cables to it.) (?)

    VIC-1 Question

You could probably get by without the MX7777. As I recall, that device was intended to prevent the RT524 and RT246 (not to mention a few other options) from current spikes when starting/shutting off an engine. Those RT's were prone to not tolerating the variation on voltage when someone started...

    Gama gama hey!

Don't you already have a slave cable receptacle near the pintle hook? Edit: Oops, as soon as I hit send, I realized you said "slave cable", and I was thinking trailer receptacle. My bad. (Age, the final frontier)
