    M1009 headlight options?

Just noticed that one of my sealed-beam headlights is turning into an illuminated aquarium. I think it's time to upgrade to something more modern. What headlight options exists for the CUCVs and which ones do you have/had good results with?

    FLU419 Mogli's second job

The switch is a pneumatic valve with one inlet and two outlets. On the 4WD setting of the switch pressure is present on the first outlet which goes to a pneumatic cylinder engaging the 4WD lever on the transmission. On the next clockwise stop pressure also appears at the second port which is...

I will take the hoses off at both ends tomorrow and report my findings. The slow tilt is really annoying.

The manual does not show any orifice in that circuit. The noise you hear is from the over-pressure relief in the valve. I think the restriction are the hoses between valve and tilt cylinder, which are considerably smaller than all other hydraulic hoses on the FLU419.

    Cylinder rebuild

Sometimes, slight bleeding stops after using the cylinders for a while. If it gets worse you have to change the seals. Get the part number of the seal kit from the TM and then either buy original from a Case dealer or chose one of the aftermarket options. The hard part in preparation for...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I will shop around where we live now, in Western North Carolina. Last time I asked, I was quoted around $1000 by a LineX shop in Montana for just the cab.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

So there is no way around these ridiculously expensive bed liner businesses?

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

That reminds me of the only rust spots I have on my M1009, two small areas in the cab floor. Everybody, please let me know if you are going to part with a cab where these pieces could be salvaged from. They are small but curved and I rather not have to hammer flat sheet metal into shape.

Ja, wie der. Mit 'nem guten, alten Hatz Diesel. Mensch, das war'n Zeiten... (Yes, like that one. with a good, old Hatz diesel engine. Those were the days...) Unfortunately, you can't find these things here in the USA. They are very handy if you have to move dirt, bricks, cement bags, etc in...

The "Motorkipper" (self-propelled dumper) in the second photo brings back good childhood memories. Growing up in Germany we would sneak into construction sites after hours, hot-wire or manually crank these dumpers and then "race" them around. Lot more fun could be had as a kid back then. And...

The pipe stub for the lower radiator hose needs to go between the fan blades and then you have to manually turn the fan/engine while guiding the radiator towards its desired location. I have done that by myself but another set of hands would make the job much easier.

Very happy with 700R4 in M1009

Iceman, Thanks for your encouraging comments regarding the 700R4. I know that I am a little over-cautious since this is the first automatic transmission I rebuilt and I do not want to spend another weekend day yanking out a burned up 700R4 and putting the TH400 back in my daily driver. The fact...

Very happy with 700R4 in M1009

There are several ways to control TCC lockup automatically depending on the type of valve body you have. If you google "700R4 TCC lockup wiring" you will find an abundance of options. However, keep in mind that a TCC can be fried even easier than the 3/4 clutches on the 700R4 if the engagement...

Voted for you but the old International wrecker is going to be hard to beat. Good luck anyways.

What axle ratios and tire diameters are you running in your CUCVs/Blazers?

Very happy with 700R4 in M1009

Just completed a 600 mile trip without any issues. Got 21 miles per gallon staying between 65 and 70 mph on the interstate. That is impressive for a full size, lifted truck with aerodynamics of a brick and a whole lot better than I ever got with the TH400 at any speed. Operating the engine near...
