Well, we got the tires in and have them mounted on our M35A2 W/W, here are the pictures:
We put the Continental 12.5R20's dualed out on the rear axles with the factory rims and put the Michelin X 12.5R20's on the front on Boyce one piece rims.
Had no problems at all putting the Continental...
Thanks FMJ,
It was that thread that got us started on getting the 12.5's in the first place.
We ordered the tires, I'll post pics once they are on the truck. We did order two one-piece rims for the front tires on the advice from our mechanic.
I did a search and couldn't find the answer:
Does anyone have any pics of a deuce with 12.5R20 MIL NATO 12-ply old style Continental tires like in the picture? or have used these tires on a duece?
We were looking for more 12.5R20 Michelin X's ( we have three already ) and found a place with...
Very True, Very True,
A LOT of the younger generation cannot drive a manual tranny, we’re lucky that we have a good number of members who can drive our two M35A2’s, but there are still qualified members who are excluded from driving them because they cannot drive a manual tranny.
What kind of...
Are the deuce factory rims true split rim wheels?
Our County tire mechanic calls them lock ring rims.
The County has a true tire cage now, they used to chain the tire/wheel with two chains around the tire through the hub to an eye bolt set in the garage slab to remove the ring.
The County...
Right now they have A3's at the Forest Service Lufkin yard waiting on departments to request them. ( at least the guy at the yard told me this last week ) But I understand wanting to pick out your own truck. The Forest Service does let you return a truck if problems are found.
When you say...
When we first got our 1968 A2 W/W it had a non-turbo engine, the oil level seemed to "rise" after each use, it took us a bit to figure out it was diesel in the oil, we bypassed the FDC and the problem stopped. We also had help from this forum.
That engine since crapped out and he have a brand...
Well, There are quite a few VFD's in Texas running M35A3's now. They are available from the DRMO and the Texas Forest Service is giving away only A3's now.
The DRMO had A2's cheap ( $200 and up ) up until a few months ago, now only A3's and 900 series 5-tons.
We're sticking with the A2 for...
These are/were at the DRMO yard in San Antonio.
They never have the size or quantity of tires/rims we need. Always some kind of oddball stuff that won't fit our deuces. We did get three brand new 12.5R20's there for $125 each, wish they had more....
I've never seen 14.5R20's there. They also...
Well,
Thanks for all the help guys, we ordered new 10" wide deuce rims and are going to try out 12.5R20's on one of our deuces. I'll post pics once we are done.
Do the rear 15.5R20's rub at all? how about going over bumps and such?
We had a chance to get some brand new 15.5R20's on rims for $125 each, but passed it up as we didn't think they would fit, the rims weren't deuce rims, maybe 5-ton.
If you're talking about the exhaust, ours is re-routed M35A1 style.
I have detailed pics someone here sent me of them mounting 12.5’s on stock A2 rims, what is the danger? See attached picture
Also Gensco tires has 12.5’s mounted on A2 rims already that came that way from the...
well Derrickl112, sorry if I sounded a little PO'd.
Last year we didn't have a single flat and delayed upgrading the deuce tires to buy other needed stuff, yesterday at two somewhat large grass/brush fires we had 3 flats on our "light" deuce, and today open the station doors to find a front...
To those who answered my question nicely, thanks. I guess we'll try to go with our previous plan of using 12.5 x 20 tires on the stock rims.
You know I've been on this forum 4 years longer than you, and I did a careful search for ANY thread with 16.00 x 20 in the title in the deuce forum and...
Somewhere on the net I've seen pictures of deuce(s) with singled 16.00 x 20 tires on custom rims.
Has anyone here done this? is it possible on a stock deuce using custom rims.
And... what suggestions for places for aftermarket rims?
We have a source of brand new 16.00 x 20 XL tires on pallets...
Locally this has been discussed a lot among us VFD's.
Two of our sister sister VFD's had M35A2 brake system failures using DOT 3/4. I do not know if the brake systems were flushed properly or not before changing brake fluids. The brake systems were basically toast and had to have major work...
Does the engine have a yellow sticker on one of the oil filter housings like in the attached picture
If so the FDC is probably bypassed meaning the engine is set-up to run on diesel fuel only.
last year we picked up two brand new / rebuilt LDT 465 1D engines that were set up for diesel only...
This has been an issue with us since we started using Deuces as brush fire trucks 20 years ago.
I've seen three basic systems used around here on deuces and 5-ton brush fire trucks, here is my 2 cents on three different ways of getting 12V to your emergency equipment:
Separate 12V system
Pro -...
