    MEP-831A engine repair

Very cool. Thanks for the help. Now that I know where to measure the PMA voltage I should be able to proceed here. I still don’t know if Im supposed to set the no load on the manual start knob fist though. I’ll try that. Thanks again!

    MEP-831A engine repair

Ok, the engine is back inside of this unit. I have it running and just going through the governor system set procedures. I have checked the linkage spherical nut and it’s showing one thread at the bottom. Step 2 of the actuator GAC is confusing to me. “Make sure the actuator lever reaches the...

    MEP-831A engine repair

One thing that I forgot to include in that last post. This engine kit came with (2) of the “valve caps” that I was inquiring about earlier in this thread. The parts diagram and the service diagram both only show (1) of them on the exhaust valve. I went ahead and installed the on top of both of...

    MEP-831A engine repair

Well, I had a productive and successful day with that Yanmar L70 engine. I got that bad boy back together and running on the bench. I’ve got a 12vdc fuel pump that I use around the shop to transfer fuel etc. I supplied fresh fuel to the IP and used a couple of spare 12vdc batteries wired in...

    MEP-831A engine repair

I know! I tried to Google that kit number, but nothing comes up. I actually ordered a new connecting rod and the “valve cap” from someone else because I didn’t know that they’d be in this kit. I’ll just return them.

    MEP-831A engine repair

I found a rebuild kit on eBay from “militarysurplusparts.” This kit was very complete. Not only did it include all of the seals, o-rings, gaskets, filters, needle bearings, ball bearings and much more, it also came with a new connecting rod, fuel pump and fuel injector! Genuine Yanmar parts and...

    MEP-831A engine repair

The one thing that I can add to using the compression release while cranking the engine over, is that any excessive fuel/fluid that may have been inside the combustion chamber would then more than likely be expelled through the exhaust valve (while it was held open with the compression release)...

    MEP-831A engine repair

I was out on the Olympic peninsula for a couple of days with some friends. We were out of cell range so I’m just now getting around to reading the messages. It’s cool to see the interest and the input that this thread started. I’m not really sure how the fluid got into the combustion chamber on...

    MEP-831A engine repair

When I removed the injector, I didn’t see anything wrong with the tip, it was in place and looked normal. But I will leave the injector out and hooked up to the high pressure line when I get this engine back together. Then I can crank the engine over and check the spray pattern of the injector...

    MEP-831A engine repair

Yes, they have electric lift pumps. So that’s something that I’ll look closely at for sure. Thanks!

    MEP-831A engine repair

I suppose it's possible, but then I would think that the water would flood the crankcase and not the combustion chamber.

    MEP-831A engine repair

I did just that Guy. The person I bought the connecting rod from has them. Just ordered it.

    MEP-831A engine repair

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe a pressure wash that caused water intrusion? But it definitely had to be liquid of some kind to bend that connecting rod. I see people on this forum send pictures of pages out of the TM’s with impunity. For the life of me, I can’t figure out how to do it. So...

    MEP-831A engine repair

I posted a thread a few days ago entitled “MEP-831A fuel pump.” I had recently acquired this machine from auction in non running condition. My first problem was no fuel out of the fuel pump. That problem has since been resolved. I figured that I should start a different thread now because I’m no...

I do see that now, thanks for pointing it out. It looks like a really nice unit with many capabilities.

Do you know what load it’s capable of?

    Cold snap on east coast

I always say, this little pocket in the NW is usually 30-40 degrees warmer in the winter and 30-40 degrees cooler in the summer compared to a lot of the rest of the country. It’s 42 degrees here this morning, and just a little precipitation. Hoping you all get through this cold snap!

Mep-803a top cover off with questions

You’ll find lots of help on this forum. It’s best to test and replace parts as needed rather than just replacing them. It’s also a lot less expensive. Those cables may look “bad” but still have a lot of integrity left in them. One of the best ways (and most suggested on this forum) to get to...
