M1008 - operation w/o instrument cluster? Is this possible?

I'ddouble check that alternator before jumping at a replacement. theynormally need the cluster indicator lights to energize. You can take a jumper wire from the pos battery post(12 volt) and momentarily touch the brown wire in the alt connector to energize the system to check voltage.

    M1009 glow plug light

At colder temps the glowplugs may cycle on and off several times after the engine starts. this is normal in both civy and cucv trucks. but at 45 it may indicate a temp sensor or card problem.

    1986 m1008 front end shaking

Chevy never used a D60 with ball joints. They had already gone to IFS before dodge & ford began useing ball joints rather than the kingpin/bearing setup. a stabilizer may help but the cause is usually a combo of worn tierods and/or tire balance. most noticable when running larger rubber.2cents

    6.5 turbo

The right side manifold will be extremely close to the frame rail and may require light grinding toavoid contact. Also 6.5 injectorsshould be installed as they are shorter than 6.2s which will contact the rt. manifold. A custom crossover pipe from left to right exhaust manifolds will have to be...

    Possibly gov-loc issues

Used as intended by the designers, a "gov lok"can live a long time. The key is to avoid rapid acceleration with only one wheel on firm traction. The "gov" part of thediff needs a rotation or two to do its thing. The first sign of real trouble is when the wheels won't unlock in a turn on pavement...

If the truck sat for awhile with the park brake set it is not unusual to have a little surface etching where the shoes made contact with the drums. this is usually only 'surface deep' and will disappear with the first few brake applications.

    Cucv extreme rattle noise

An injector with low "cracking presure"will create a low rpm knock that goes away with higher rpms and fuel demand. At idle loosen each fuel line one at a time . if the knock goes away you have found the culprit.
