Anyone know what controls the idle speed when using the HEMTT crane? The TM says it should be idling at 1500 RPM, but mine is at 2000 RPM when I engage the crane. Thanks.
Looking for someone in the Dallas/Ft Worth area who can install an under the hood A/C unit in my M923. These summer days are too hot too really enjoy my 5 ton. If it is a job you think you may be able to do please let me know. Thanks!!
Bryan Steinborn
I'm glad to hear it worked out for you. My 5 ton doesn't have the ABS upgrade and I'm aware of the stall issue so I've actually practiced doing exactly what you did. Always worried I'll forget though if I ever need to do it. Again, glad to hear you had no issues.
rneely, you ever get the power steering fluid replaced? An M939 newbie myself, the power steering was giving me fits this past weekend. The power steering reservoir is low but since I don't know if it has 10w motor oil or power steering fluid I figured I'd just drain the system and replace...
Did some looking in the TM. If you want to shift the transfer case from hi to low and vice versa, slow the vehicle down to 22 mph, put the vehicle into neutral, shift the transfer case and then shift from neutral back into gear. Didn't see anything else. If slamming on the brakes locks the...
This is probably another stupid question. I recently bought an M939A1 with no ABS. I've had a deuce for a couple of years. But the 5 ton has me spooked with this braking issue. I've had to stomp on the brakes with the deuce in the past, sometimes people in front of you do strange things. No...
Has anyone else had this problem with the M939A1 water pump? I needed to replace the water pump. Numerous places sell the water pump. See the picture below for a view of the water pump.
I noticed that this new pump appears to be different than the one shown in the TM, TM-9-2320-272-24-1...
Thanks! My usual search options include "nhc-250" or "M939". Guess I'll start including "cummins" in my google searches. Thanks again, I found the gaskets.
I am replacing the water pump on the M923. I have the water pump and the o-ring but I can't find the gasket labeled number 13 in the Figure below (TM9-2320-272-24-4, chapter 3-6). I have searched for the PN 130226 and NSN 5330-00-106-6370 with no luck. I could always use the old gasket but...
Went and checked out the truck a couple of days ago. It doesn't have the ABS modification. Think I should be concerned? Nobody on this site has mentioned any significant issues with the 923.
I'll have to check to see if the truck has an a ABS system. The ABS must have been the only fix. 1999 was a few years back so perhaps most of the 900 series have been retrofitted before ending up at GL. The truck I'm looking at already has the super singles too. But again I'm not hauling...
I've been thinking of buying an M923 from a friend of mine. I already own a deuce. Then I came across this information,
"The safety of the M939 series of trucks has been criticized, especially braking performance and stability when loaded. In 1999 the US Army began refitting anti-lock brake...
I started by replacing the lenses but during installation soon found that the plastic housing was cracked around the lense fasteners. In one tail light only two lense fasteners were holding. So now I have two new lenses if anyone wants them. I'll just give them away, even free shipping! Just...
eagle4g63,
I agree that a single wire goes to brake/signal bulb. I did not keep the old housings, so I can't verify this, but in the 2 filament bulb, is 1 filament for the brake and the another for the signal? Not sure how that works with one wire. Or do both filaments just light up at the...
