    M35a3 wheel

The road manners are good. They track straight and don't wander. You will notice the lugs when crawling (1-3 mph) on pavement, the truck will have a distinct up/down motion - this smooths out completely once you get rolling. There is a howl from the tires at speed, but you really can't hear it...

    M35a3 wheel

Thanks. The truck handles well with them, offroad traction and stability is vastly superior to the NDCCs. I think the 14.5R20s and singles may be the best thing the A3 brought to the table except for possibly the Air-o-matic.

    M35a3 wheel

The most backspacing available with the 20x10 wheels from USA6x6 is 7 inches. This leaves about 2 inches of tire past the fender in front and is even with the outside of the rear mud flaps with 14.5R20's installed. I have a set of A3 wheels on the way, but it will be several weeks until I get...

    Turn Signal Troubleshoot

Check the contacts inside the turn signal switch, a little corrosion will cause intermittent contact. I had the same issue with "they work, they don't work, now they work again". I Cleaned the contacts with fine (320+ grit) sandpaper and no problems since. It's easy to do if you remove the...

What Spline count will I find on my 1970 M35A2 Front axle

16 splines on the Rockwell 2.5 ton axle. Ouverson hubs are tough to beat, but they are fairly large. Check this: http://www.ouversonengineering.com/axle_products?start=15

detroit locker in the rear axle(s)

gringeltaube wrote: A little bit off topic: shafts & hubs on both sides of the middle axle? Why? These were originally installed as one on each rear axle to select either axle to drive. After the locker install both were installed in one axle so they were not just sitting on the shelf in the...

detroit locker in the rear axle(s)

I currently have one locker, installed in the rear axle. The middle axle has the Ouverson double splined shafts and lock-out hubs. The front axle is locked-out as well. The idea was to compensate on-road for the disconnected middle axle and improve off-road performance. I have not had to lock...

detroit locker in the rear axle(s)

sparkylisle, You are correct, the install is straight forward. It is easier with the bed off of the truck or with the axle assembly removed from the vehicle. The 3rd member is heavy, a engine lift would really make it a snap. Clean off the 3rd member very well before dissassembly, all of the...

    Yet another big tire thread.

You could try commercial tires, but they are pricey unless you find a full set at Berg Tire. Here are 11.00x20 Goodyear G188s on a deuce. These are the most aggressive tire I could find when trying to decide which combination to go with.

    Yet another big tire thread.

Michelin 12.5R20 XLs...same height as 9.00x20s, just wider and kinda tight between them.

    Super Singles Pic

Running singles will reduce the turning radius somewhat, but the greatest reduction is achieved by disconnecting one rear axle. This also reduces front tire "scrub" when turning. The easiest way to disconnect one axle is to remove the driveshaft between the rear axles.
