I found a user on another thread who posted a pic of a pintle/ball combo that can be bolted in exactly where the old pintle is. Any draw-backs to this? I sent him a message but no response yet. It looks sound in the pictures, just not sure if some civilian trailers would fit. If that's not going...
Sure, i found some, each with conflicting information - especially in regards to what kind of hitch to get - and a bunch of terminology/steps that were a bit over my head. Found plenty of stuff on Google too (prior to posting), led me to similar forums. I'm not an expert, just looking for some...
Looking to buy some toys in the near future that will require a trailer. Is there a particular hitch that fits the M1009. And what is the cost/ length of time required to install? Thanks!
I'm somewhere in the Vic. of 16-17 Highway. It's pretty much a straight shot from home to work on the highway so I don't even worry about city. Seems to get a little worse in winter, probably because I'm using 4WD more. No leaky IP, though. Maybe that's just all I'm going to get out of her...
As you can see from my profile pic, my CUCV is blue and while it's not the worst looking thing in the world, I'm tired of looking at it and ready to initiate the process of getting it back to a nice Army color. Obviously my first step is undoing this paintjob. I've never attempted anything like...
It's a 6.2. I'm adding a standard diesel additive specially for cold weather. I'm monitoring my coolant level, too. So far so good. Towards the end of today (I'd driven about 80 miles altogether) the smoke had diminished considerably, down to about what I saw from other truck and even some cars.
I've seen a few threads but can't find one directly related to my situation. In live in Alaska and recently the temprature has really plummeted. This morning when I left for work it was -16. Since it's started to get so cold, my truck has started pumping out a lot of white smoke. I see plenty of...
Thanks for the assist guys. I do have the TMs, and I've found the setion regarding steering, but much of it is written as if you aready know quite a bit about the components, which I don't. I'll do some research on the suggested parts and see what I can find. Thanks!
Working my way through the issues with my M1009, all fairly minor (so far). Next up is the loose steering. It's not awful, and I drive about fifteen miles on the highway everyday with no issues, but with winter hitting, I'm driving on ice a lot more and would prefer some tighter control. It...
Okay, so I've narrowed the problem down to the GP relay. If this was obvious to some of you, I'm sorry, I'm new at this. The GP's were getting almost no power, so I tested out the relay, which tested very low. Then I took the wire off the relay that splits in two and goes to the GP's and held it...
I do have a block heater, and I will be checking it again this morning, though worked fine last time I checked it. I also did replace all the glow plugs since i wasn't sure how long they'd been in there. I will try to find the cold advance on the injector pump. Thanks!
Trouble starting CUCV
I have another thread going but I see that I didn't post quite enough info to get some real help sorry about that. My problem is that I sometimes can't get the vehicle started. At first, I attributed it to the cold, but I've also had issues trying to leave work. Now I'm...
My problem was that I couldn't get my 85 M1009 to start on cold mornings - and since I live in Alaska, that's a problem. Thanks to some help from some guys on this site, I tested my GP's and switched them out. It starts better (meaning it actually starts!) but it's still pretty sluggish...
Thanks for the info guys! I tested out all the GP's and four were bad. I went ahead and replaced all of them (I have no idea how long they'd been in there) and while it is definitely starting better, it's still a bit sluggish....
Glow Plug help
I've been having a **** of a time getting my M1009 started in the cold. A mechanic friend of mine says that I probably need to replace some Glow Plugs. I'm reading a lot on here about controller cards and resistors. Does anyone know of a good video where I could learn about this...
Just an update: I got the hood open. I did so by prying the hood up a tad, then using a socket to loosen the lock assembly, which allowed the hood to go up even further. Then I stuck a coat-hanger around the back and undid the lock. Did the trick, now I just have to purchase a new cable and I...
Thanks for the reply, dependable. I read another post where someone used a very long screw-driver to go up under the grill and pop the mechanism. That's my first option, yours is next. How hard was it to replace the cable?
So, I fixed one problem (replacing the windshield wiper motor) just in time for something else to break, my hood release. I'm almost certain that the wire attached to the locking mechanism snapped. Anyone know a way to get that hood up or off? Thanks guys!
