Thanks I have big plans for my truck and I am planning on starting a build thread once I get to the interesting stuff. Right now Im just trying to get it up to scratch and to the level where I feel good about taking it on long road trips. My end vision for it is old school expedition truck.

    Fuel Line and Steering Rack

Thanks for the replies I was thinking that might of been something with the injection pump or the lines around it. And with the steering rack I was thinking that the rubber might have just disintegrated with time. So Im considering just slathering the joints in grease for now until I have the...

    Fuel Line and Steering Rack

I've had my truck ('86 M1008 ) for a while now(2ish months) and I've noticed a few "quirks" with it The first one: I knew about this when I bought it, The truck seems to have a vacuum leak in the fuel lines, so if I leave the truck to sit overnight it will usually take a few cranks to start and...

Ok I see what you guys are saying. Ive already scrapped the idea of the 4.10 gears because it kills my power and causes me to lose my locker. Currently I cant afford a 700r4 or more hp so Im looking for potential work arounds with tires and anything else I can think of.

Two more noob question: How much effect does hp/torque have on rpm with stock trans/alxe ratios? Also what do you think the minimum lift would be to fit 35" tires for moderate offroad and minimal to no trimming?

Thanks for all the help I think Ill go with 35" tires and a 2"?(That will fit right?) lift to draw out the gears, the Detroit is worth more to me than speed. (Just to start, more will come) To clarify the truck isn't vibrating anymore than a 30 yr old truck with 5 yr old tires should be. Its...

Hi guys I'm brand new to these forums and I have just bought a 1986 M1008. Its also my first vehicle I've ever owned. I just wanted a great basic platform to improve and work on. It was a Coast Guard truck at Whidbey Island Naval Base until the early 90s and and until 2006 worked for the forest...
