ORD Shackle Flip and Stock Spring vs 4" Tuff Country EZ Ride HDs

I called ORD today to finalize my order, but sadly Chris was not available. I'm going with a 4" lift, but can't really justify going with the ORD springs....just too pricey. So, I'm trying to decide whether to go with the rear ORD shackle flip mated to stock springs or to go with the 4" Tuff...

    Spinning Antenna Mount Bolt

Ok...a new term I had not heard before..."riv-nuts." Enpowered with a new term, I performed a search and found this: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?36462-Jack-nut-removal That thread has some good pictures of the pesky little critters! I will give them a solid yank, then put...

    Spinning Antenna Mount Bolt

Thanks for the replies. Great minds think alike. I tried wedging a large flathead in there to apply pressure. No luck. What do those darn nuts look like behind the sheet metal? I suspect there's a lip and larger surface behind it...so I don't see it just popping out, but I could be wrong. And...

    Spinning Antenna Mount Bolt

A tack weld might be the best solution. Trying to drill something that spins freely probably isn't going to work.

    Spinning Antenna Mount Bolt

Drilling may be required...as I already mentioned in my post. The mounts are on the rear of the M1009. The nuts are not available to grab on the other side before someone suggests that. ;-)

    Bilstein Shocks for Lifted M1009

Ilikemtb999, Wow, thanks for the positive thoughts. Nope, I'm planning to get it all from Chris. It was just curiosity. If someone has a good engineered solution for me, provides me a quote and I choose to use that solution, then they have earned my business. Asking them if they can price...

    Spinning Antenna Mount Bolt

So, today, I was tired of banging my head on my M1009's antenna mounts so I started loosening the bolts. Wouldn't you know it. Most bolts came right out, but I have maybe three where the nut in the truck side is spinning. See image below. I really don't want to cut the bolts and drill. Any ideas...

    Bilstein Shocks for Lifted M1009

Hmmmm. How sure are you on that? I'm not too sure. In the quote, he listed the rears with standard Bilstein part numbers. (5125s) 33-185569. The fronts were listed as Bilstein F3 0RD SD. I'll ask him today or tomorrow...whenever I get the time. I work about the same hours as he does probably...

    Bilstein Shocks for Lifted M1009

I will soon be getting a 4" lift on my M1009 and have a question. When 0RD gave me a quote, they listed Bilstein F3 0RD SD shocks for the fronts / 5125's for the rears. I get the 5125's but what are the Bilstein F3 0RDs?

Anyone Have This Setup: 33x10.5x15s on Black Rock 942 Wheels???

Bighorn, sorry I've been extremely busy. Thank you for sharing your experience and story. Very good info. I'm definitely going to start off with 33's. I just don't want to stress everything from the start, plus only time will tell how my son and I will use the truck and how often we get the...

M1009 Old Front Springs - Droop (What should it look like new?)

I appreciate everyone's input...I really do. Some good stuff to think about. I used to be into old BMW motorcycles and Alfa Romeos and I see some in this crowd are just as passionate about what they like. I understood it with the old Beemers and old Alfas, but must say it was a bit unexpected...

M1009 Old Front Springs - Droop (What should it look like new?)

rustystud, thanks for the exact answer to my question....(2.0" clearance between between bump stop and leaf spring top plate). I'm looking into the rust issue. I'd like to have the frame, etc. all sandblasted repainted but not sure I can afford it right now...but looking into options. It looks...

M1009 Old Front Springs - Droop (What should it look like new?)

Drock, Thanks for the look and advice. I've checked out the ORD site and contacted them for recommendations...lift, steering, brakes, etc. It looks like the right place to go. :-)

M1009 Old Front Springs - Droop (What should it look like new?)

I've had this M1009 for about a week now so I'm looking it over, up, down, around and trying to ascertain what all needs to be addressed. Since the tires are dated 2003, that's a place to start, but I'm also wanting to get the suspension and steering in order. The brakes are stopping fine and...

Anyone Have This Setup: 33x10.5x15s on Black Rock 942 Wheels???

Do you know which Bilsteins are correct for the 3 or 4 inch lift?

Anyone Have This Setup: 33x10.5x15s on Black Rock 942 Wheels???

You are correct. I am brand new to the M1009. I do understand some of the differences between the M1009 and M1008...gearing...axles...etc., but now knowing that going up to 35s would pose a problem, I will stick with 33's. I appreciate the added info.

Anyone Have This Setup: 33x10.5x15s on Black Rock 942 Wheels???

98G, thanks for the tip. I'll stick with the 33's as planned. I just want the added clearance, but don't want to go crazy with it...don't want to have to start sinking tons of money in it.

Anyone Have This Setup: 33x10.5x15s on Black Rock 942 Wheels???

bgekky3, thanks for the reply. Why the desire to go to 35's and then 37's? Since I'm going to do a 3-4" lift, I should be good for 33s or 35s. Any issues with yours?

Anyone Have This Setup: 33x10.5x15s on Black Rock 942 Wheels???

Bighorn, thanks for the reply. Nice pictures. I really like the shot of the front passenger side with green and blue sky in the background. Very nice! Where was that taken? Beautiful.

Anyone Have This Setup: 33x10.5x15s on Black Rock 942 Wheels???

So, I'm fixing to purchase a full set of wheels and tires and just wondering if anyone has this setup. These will be going on a 1984 M1009 that will probably get the Tuff Country 3" EZ Ride Lift with SX8000 shocks...but still need to research it some. Your feedback is always welcome. - BFG...
