I bought a pair of tailgate chains that are supposed to fit a CCKW. Do the pics look like they're supposed to? They measure about 20" from the inside of the hooks to the inside of the mounting link.....is that about right?
They look too new to be originals but if they're right I don't really...
Doesn't work out with my model no. since it ends with only a "1"
With 11:00 tires @ 600 lb / inch that would give me 13,200 which should be plenty.
I'm trying to balance the load on my lowboy with a D6 to make sure I'm in compliance with bridge laws. The trailer length limits me to 76,000#...
Trying to find out the weight rating for the front axel on a 5-ton M931.
The model no. on the tag is FN 1240RSAX 1
Some info I found indicated that the "12" in the model no indicates a 12,000 lb axle but not all of the model number conformed to the format.
Anyone know if 12,000 is correct...
I remember seeing a list of parts (seals, filters, etc.) for CCKW's and other trucks that were cross referenced to Napa numbers (or other suppliers) that are still available. Anyone know where I saw it?...can't seem to find it again.
I did cross ref. the inner wheel bearing seals and...
Finally got a little work started on the CCKW. Hauled the rolling frame over to the sandblaster last week and got it stripped.
There's a little grinder work to clean up where things have been welded to the frame, but not too many. I'll have to pull the front bumper off and do some...
I will be using the red wire for brake on the Civ. plug, but since the brake & turn are combined on the Mil. plug I won't need to use the red wire on the mil 12-pin receptacle.
Got the wiring finished up.....looks like it will work well having two trailer receptacles. I thought about just...
Looks like that's going to work. The lights will work differently between Military and Civ trucks but I don't think it will matter.
On the M931 the outside 2 lights will be stop, turn, & tail and the inside 2 will be just tail lights.
When hooked to a civ. truck the outside 2 will be...
I've got a lowboy trailer that I'm fixing up and thought I had the wiring worked out but now I'm not sure.
The trailer is older and is wired using only 4-wire cable with the frame acting as ground.
It's wired: Brown- Tail/Marker
Red- Stop...
Have had the machines 4-5 years but didn't have a place to put them until a little over a year ago. I use them mostly for my own repair work. Spent many years working in the mold/die industry but have been away from it for about 15 years.
Had a little time to work on the 270 engine block. I had previously sleeved one cylinder because it was badly pitted and since it was already bored to .060 oversize that was about my only choice. The deck was a little rough and the sleeve need to be cut flush, and since the local machine shop...
Bought it from HydroSmart. The boiler is like this http://www.hydro-smartwholesale.com/sh-3.html
The system came fully assembled on a panel...boiler, pumps, piping etc. Similar to this, but with the boiler unit also on the panel. http://www.hydro-smartwholesale.com/master-panel.html You...
Thanks AZK9,
The shop was a long time coming...finally finished it up about a year ago. It's 40 x 56 x 16' with 14 x 14 door. Insulated the heck out of it so I can afford to keep it heated. Put in radiant heat in the floor heated with an electric micro boiler. So far it's been very economical.
Have this problem in Ia on vehicles after about 1981 or 82 (when they standardized on 17 digit VIN) Until about two years ago we couldn't get one titled at all. The DOT computer system would kick out anything without a 17 digit VIN and then if it didn't have a FMVSS (which Mil trucks don't)...
Someone posted this on a caterpillar site I read and thought some might find it interesting....3 pages of pics of vehicles & equipment.

I've had a couple of requests for a list of parts I got from http://www.discounthydraulichose.com to repair the fuel lines so I thought I'd post the part numbers from my invoice.
This is probably not a complete list of fittings to do your truck because there were at least a couple of push-lock...
