MEP 003 - Tap Changer Stuck
You helpful souls advised me to spray my tap changing switch down with penetrating oil and be patient and work the knob back and forth and to not attempt to disassemble this switch -
I am trying to follow - but the switch is sealed up like a starter with a solid...
Is this the brake light switch?
Guys - still trying to figure out why my brake lights will not work after I hooked up a trailer. Could be coincidence I guess. I can not find anything likely candidates except for this one. It is on the left frame rail about half way back. Can you guys...
I am puzzled why the genset just shuts off? It is moving the rod which I believe controls the fuel right before it shuts down, but it just dies. Seems strange, like the guys above stated it seems like it would trip a breaker if anything. Any ideas?
Hey guys - was wondering if anyone has had any experience running the heat side of a 5ton unit with a genset? It indicates 100% loaded - I let it run for about 10 minutes and the genset turned itself off.
On the AC side it is only running 50% loaded. I am looking for the technical manual now...
Thanks Guys. So do I need to take the switch loose from the housing (four bolts if I remember), or can I leave it mounted. I guess what I'm getting at is - Where do I need to apply the lubrication? - I know - I know - That's what she said. Ha.
I have a MEP-003 that I changed the tap from single phase 120/240 over to the three phase 120/208 - It turned fairly hard and it seemed like it went past the position before it switched. I ran the genset and got the proper voltage readings off of L1,L2,L3,L0 but the tap changer liked locked...
First of all I would like to thank everyone here who offers great advice. You guys have helped me out numerous times and it is greatly appreciated. As I have said before I am just an old farmer who uses my M923A1 around the ranch but I do keep it tagged because I have to get it out on the...
No I wasn't in low. I drove it down the highway to get to the farm I was working on. Can a person tell if the lines are swapped by my pictures? Thanks. I think the last image shows the distance between the washer and the actuator perhaps.

Thanks for the direction. On a side note, when I got the truck home the linkage was missing to the transfer case lever. The truck was marked as a drivers training rig, and so I thought they may have removed it to keep someone from reversing in four low.
My apologies in advance for not knowing the answer to this question already, BUT.......... It's deer season and I had my 923 out this weekend - yeah just because I love to drive it through the woods and you can see way better - anyway just like a kid in a candy store I couldn't resist the barn...
Does anyone know where a guy can get a replacement black knob off the front of the genset? I think they are the same, but I need the triangular black knob that is the start switch.
THanks
Appreciate it. I am not sure where I got the notion that they were a nightmare and could not be easily disabled. Apparently, i received some bad information, which i am glad was not accurate.
Great when the forum works as designed!
Thanks for the quick replies. And with all due respect, I'll have to back the eagle up on this one. The question wasn't "will I ever have to work on this old truck?", it was specific to a specialized system on the truck that I am unfamiliar with. DH's reply had nothing constructive in it...
