The spring connects to a tab on the drivers side of the clutch housing directly behind the the thru shaft for the throw out bearing.

They give you about 3 inches more ground clearace also. No problems rubbing at all.

I am running them on my deuce with no problems at all.

for the brake light problem: check for voltage at the brake light switch which is located down by the air pack and master cylinder. If you have voltage at both sides of the switch without applying the brakes it should indicate a bad brake light switch.
