MEP voltage regulator - cross reference check

Can you get the correct part numbers for the full exciter/VR assemblies and post them?

MEP voltage regulator - cross reference check

Interesting: I pulled the 30554-70-4145 from a working MEP-004 but it was clearly a replacement. You never know with these surplus units if they have been messed with. Was not obvious till I went to pull it. I’ve got a spare on an 005 but found several 006 assemblies for sale at good prices. I...

    CUCV Starter problems

None of us took auto mechanic in high school - we went to college instead. The point is we are hobbyists - not pros. The documentation and this forum has failed to prevent dozens if not hundreds of damaged trucks - many I can imagine scrapped because someone did not have specific instructions on...

MEP voltage regulator - cross reference check

Trying to cross reference is MEP-004 and MEP-006 can use the same voltage regulator assembly. Part number of unit I pulled from MEP-004 was 30554-70-4145 Unit from MEP-006 is a 30554-70-1367 Darn close and maybe only a version or year difference in part number - anyone know for sure?

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

Ok lost a voltage regulator this week after a 40 hour run on a converted MEP-004a. We did this MEP-004 a couple years ago but then it sat - we finally put it to real work and it failed after about 40 hours of serious run time. The unit has done three weeks as house backup a couple years ago but...

    CUCV Starter Supplier

So the CUCV Wiki only covers the starter relay - I did not find anything in the CUCV about starter choices, mounting, replacing bolts or brackets. All of which I found all over the place in multiple different threads - some covered multiple times. Plus, several threads mentioned broken blocks...

    CUCV Starter Supplier

Request for starter issues to be consolidated and added to CUCV Wiki. Dear Moderator - after looking and eventually finding several starter threads with different and sometimes bad info - is there a process to get the Wiki updated with all the right info?

    CUCV Starter problems

So what we are saying here is we don't know as a community what to add to the CUCV Wiki on this topic? Sounds like we need an expert panel to get in the loop and add to the Wiki - people willing to back up what they say. All us green beans trying to survive these resto projects need the help...

    CUCV Starter Supplier

Can anyone detail the difference between the 27MT and 28MT starters? It appears they may be a difference here that is key. Does the 205 and 208 transfer case make a difference in the CUCV starter? Probably not - just trying to get it right.

    CUCV Starter problems

Thanks all for this post - I'm working thru the same issue now. Original starter shim was lost as truck was under resto. New starter grinds and can't turn over motor properly - I even get some type of kick back that locks up the starter and motor. I turn it over manually and then it works again...

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

Please don't ruin this thread by rat-holing down a path that is not the intent of the thread. Please start another thread; I get it that is a little more work but fixing a diesel overun is another topic. Load balancing and other "proper" effort are not really required in a backup - not often...

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

oooyyyy - is the truth stranger than fiction? So first I find it hard to believe that a 10 lead generator will deliver 208 three phase - anyone? But that's hardly the point; the real point is we are learning that for backup and short term use you don't need to switch a unit to single phase to...

trouble getting MEP-003 injection pump opened up - already checked manual

Thanks for the Model 50 manual - gives way more detail than the TM. Last time we did a pump we just had to replace the shear pin and it went back together and worked fine. So we are trying to get the head and plunger from the base housing. I think those are the right part names. It moves a...

trouble getting MEP-003 injection pump opened up - already checked manual

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

We could take on a paid project to convert the MEP-006a and write a detailed procedure for you or for public posting. Shop rate is $69.95 per hour and it will take 2-3 weeks due to our backlog. Estimated time is 16-24 hours to due to conversion and load test, writing it up is another 8-16 hours...

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

Converting any of these -004, 005 or 006 is like taking a Semi-truck with an 80,000lb towing capacity and using it as a 1/2 ton pickup truck. An 006 at load is running 7 gallons per hours - you really want to pay $50 an hour to power your house?

MEP-004 run down to idle after 25 minutes, then dies - fuel system clean

Ok, a little manual review is helpful - maybe: The -24 manual shows the parts and calls the items we call "check valve" as a "tee" See Figure 64 - Engine Assembly and Fuel Injection System - page 256 on my -24 parts manual TM 9-6115-464-24 So what's up with a check valve being in the fuel...

MEP-004 run down to idle after 25 minutes, then dies - fuel system clean

So we gave up and switched out a complete IP and check valve from another unit and got this customer on his way. That fixed the unit that was down but now the problem is moved to the other 004 we have. So let's talk more about removal of the check valve, that's interesting - I try to avoid...

MEP-004 run down to idle after 25 minutes, then dies - fuel system clean

Thanks all. We do have a spare unit so can swap parts but sure would be nice to diagnose prior to swap. The speed switch reset seemed to solve it but then the problem continued. We've cleaned the check valve and i-pump several times. Frustrating because we have to run it for 20 plus minutes just...
