    Question; M1009 CB Power Wiring

Yes, the 6 legged ground on the parking brake mount is a great ground for 12 volt stuff. While you are there, unbolt it and clean the contact surface with the truck before bolting it back on again. There are 3 places on your truck that have easily accessible 24 volts. The firewall Buss bar...

    Question; M1009 CB Power Wiring

Your truck is still 12 and 24 volt, right? If you still have the 12/24 volt set up the rear battery is the 24 volt part of that system and totally isolated from the 12 volt part of the truck until you connect something like a CB radio to it. Then, the 24 volts will let the magic smoke out of...

    Question; M1009 CB Power Wiring

The safe, no worries way is to wire it to the front battery.

    Alternator driven diesel tach?

The CUCV alternators have a tachomoter output on the back for the STE/ICE system. Your tach might work off that signal. The best way to make it work and be able to get calibrated is to by the Dakota Digital diesel alternator tach adaptor. I have one on my CUCV engined and wired M715 and one...

Reo OA-331 Oil Filter Upgrade - Detailed

That looks good. I started making a plate to do the exact same thing many years ago. Then realized as little as I drive it the oil was going to age out before I wore it out and just let it be. Nice work.

    Dog Head starter relay modification

The relay solenoid uses 12 volts to connect the 24 volts from the battery to the starter solenoid. If it is chattering then it is most likely a problem on the 12 volts side of the relay or the relay is failing internally and not giving continuous flow of 24 volts. The only way I can think to...

TX Can't get title/registration in Texas - suggestions?

Glad you got what you wanted. One tip for summer driving the M35. Raise the windows and close the side vents. Then open the windshield as much as you can stand. Once you get above 20 mph it will feel cool. I know it sounds counter intuitive, but it works. I drove a M35 down I-10 from Las...

TX Can't get title/registration in Texas - suggestions?

If you have the FMV paper filled out and the pictures it requires. Nothing else needs to be done legally with a clerk who knows what they are doing. Kindly suggesting they call Austin is your best bet the next time this happens. I have to use that suggestion every time we get a new clerk at...

    Glow plug controller lights

You are correct that someone switched some wires around. Probably. You are going to have to look up the wiring diagram in the back of the -20 TM and follow each wire going to and from the controller and relay. Something isn’t hooked up correct.

    Electrical issue.

The batteries are in series for the 24 volt part of the truck. However, the 12 volts for the 12 volt side of the truck is pulled from the ground wire of the back battery. I know that makes it as clear as mud. The -20 Technical Manual has a great 75 page electrical trouble shooting section plus...

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

You hit on the main reason I haven’t even search for exhaust brake information yet. Intuitively it seems turbo damage is a very real possibility. That is why Jake brakes are preferable in my opinion.

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

Keith, the 4L80E coast in over drive. If 1, 2 or 3 are manually selected it will bring the engine rpm up. But, with no throttle valve or exhaust brake. The diesel just revs but doesn’t really contribute to slowing my 7-8K pound truck on the steep grades. 1st selected would have the engine up to...

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

Thanks for watching. The Cowdog did do good and I still need to get 1300 miles home with it. But, after the first 90 miles it will all be a gentle decent of almost 5,000 feet.

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

Jennifer and I have spent the last week and a half driving the Cowdog around and over the mountains of Colorado. I never really appreciated what no engine braking with the 4L80E meant until this trip since I am a stupid flatlander type. I now need to move away from stock brakes and go race truck...

    Possible fuel issue

Since the truck is new to you. You want to replace all of the fuel and air filters yourself so you know they are new and correct. Use the directions in the Technical Manual to change the fuel filters in such a way as to make it start right back up again. See if the problem still exist. If it...

What do you want to know Chis? It is a Compushift without the bluetooth option since it is now 5 years old: https://www.hgmelectronics.com/transmission-controllers/

    Dash speakers

Crutchfield will sell you the speakers and mounts. Just put in for a K5 blazer. I did that on one of my M1009’s. However the choice for that size isn’t the best. I went with kick panel speaker mounts and 6” speakers when i built the Cowdog Suburban. Much better options.

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

I have written a lot about injection pump timing in this thread with promises of a video of how to read the timing. I finally got around to making such a video:

    Another yard start

Keith, I tip toed around that can of worms with care I thought. But, you are correct.

    Another yard start

A CUCV should have 12 volts at the glow plug. If you have 24 volts then something is wrong. Do you have the firewall mounted glow plug resistor behind the vacuum pump? To answer your question premise. Voltage at the glow plug just means that you are getting power to it. The only way to test the...
