Okay, I see what you are saying. Based on my experinece of buying many kinds of the smaller units from G/L I have had to bleed the injectors many times. I never noticed any real difference in cranking speed due to the injector nut being loose or tight. I guess that is because the starting...
page 1-9 in the manual
TM 5-6115-615-12
States that the engine rotates Counter Clockwise when viewed from the generator end.
So this means Clockwise when viewed from the engine fan end which is the same view as staring straight at the starter gear.
Therefore, the starter gear must rotate...
I don't work on these larger ones so I won't say too much.
No EUC needed from what I can tell. Never has been on the small units. GL divides up the stuff that needs an EUC. Look for the red icon on the event or lot listing.
The engines on the 004 and 005 are very obsolete, but also very...
Ike,
I have worked on a bunch of the d's. They all have very small gage wire on the service outlets. I would have guessed around 16ga. Not sure about the hourmeters. The box contents are totally separate from the rest of the unit. The only DC inside would be the field wire, I believe.
I...
I have not seen one configured without the starter and with only 1 float. Probably an improvement. They start very easy with the rope, usually first pull.
I have seen 2 types of belly tanks. A plastic one and a brass one. At least I think it is brass. I'm going to put a magnet to one...
Hi Wic. Some more ideas here, maybe help.
with the nut on top at the injector loose and while cranking over does it keep squirting fuel?
Put some paper towels around the nut and keep cranking until plenty of fuel comes out.
Then tighten the nut and try one more time. Sounds like you have...
Myself and one other member recently each had a failure of the round style Facet pump where it failed as short to ground and tripped the breaker. These were brand new pumps with little use. Both were on 016E. I thought at the time that there may be a manufacturing problem with some of the newer...
My guess is that you have air in the high pressure injection line because it was not fully primed after the filter change and cranking it got air in the injector line. With air in the line it will balck or blue smoke as the delivery is very retarded due to air.
To Thouroughly bleed: (This is...
I inserted comments in caps above. these are great little sets and you will enjoy yours very much. BTW you can buy a 12 volt starter for about $68 same search parameter as above. Enjoy! And WELCOME !!
Water in the oil is the problem from whatever reason. The water will burn off but in the process it can take out rod or main bearings. These engines have very substantial rods and mains but never the less why chance it. Just do an oil change and drain the filter good. New oil may turn a...
701As went for cheap at Ft. Bragg. They looked better than the usual Ft. Bragg stuff which tends to be a little rough. These looked good. I was not able to bid on those but someone got some good deals.
Good to see some of the bases having some relief on prices. Others are still high as...
Long Reply..
That's a real nice gen set you bought at a great price. You will enjoy it very much. I highly recommend pulling the top tank inspecting for rust and having it sandblasted internally or de-rusted by the dip tank process. Every unit I have come across is severely rusted and some...
Standard fuses will work. I would use a slow blow style. I think 10 or 12 amp is the rating.
Regarding those outlets on the front. The outlets are intended for light use only and not to draw a big load. The front outlets are always active. The front outlets are directly connected to one of...
My Version of the Fuse Modification
I installed the the 3 Amp slow blow fuse today in order to protect the quad winding in the stator per the service bulletin.
Instead of using an inline fuse holder I bought a 4 place holder and pop riveted it to the floor in the control box.
After cutting...
JBK,
Thanks for posting this. Just found this article and will be obtaining the parts for an un-modified 802A. Fortunately, the set I'm working on seems okay and does start quickly. I do release the start switch as soon as I see the voltage rise but the needle is so fast it can peg the...
