I'm in Rio Rancho NM and I just picked up another Deuce today. If you get stuck finding one let me know and I can probably find one locally. I know quite a few people who own them here. By the way this thread started june of 2011.
A friend and I both have A2s. One has a sprag transfer and one is air shifted. We put lockouts on both a few months ago. The sprag A2 drives noticably better. The air shifted A2 also is different in that it seems less noisy. You also don't feel the tires so much when you turn. They don't cup so...
Three years ago I painted one of my m35s and a couple trailers with Parker Duck Boat paint then spray painted the camo colors and they came out real sharp. That stuff sticks and is very tough.
One more thing. Never, ever, charge or jump a discharged battery that has been sitting in below freezing weather. Batteries can freeze when discharged and they will blow up when frozen if you try to push a lot of current through them.... personal experience when I used to do service in Colorado.
I used to work for a national fleet truck rental outfit and we used WD-40 all the time, always worked on trucks that had been sitting and the thought was that it provided a cylinder lubricant and flammible gas combination. NEVER hurt an engine using WD. That said my deuce has an ether start...
My GL contact
told me that they are pretty much gone. We will see one here and one there but not around like they used to be. Judging by the prices I've seen them bringing lately the demand is still there. Hummers coming in a year or two.
Somewhere in this thread someone asked if anyone had picked up a truck with no gauges.. About 18 months ago I did. I bought a set ahead of time and put them in prior to taking the truck. Hooked up the air, speedo, tack and oil pressure then took off. That truck had been overhauled in 1993.
My lovin wife pointed out that most of the time I would have been going downhill since the truck was up in the mountains. I totally didn't snap to that. Duh! This is my second MV at the moment but my 6th 2 1/2 ton truck. My friends keep talking me out of them. I'm going to try to keep this one.
Last week I went up to Northern New Mexico and put a deposit on a Deuce a guy had on the net. After watching two trucks close for twice what I was willing to pay on GL I felt fortunate to pay $2900 for this one. So I got up early and my bud and I went up this morning and I drove it back. We...
Interesting serial number. One of the deuces I'm working on was delivered in 3/54 too and the serial number on yours seems like it's real close. I'll have to check it tomorrow. Now I'm really curious!
I just bought one off the NG base here in New Mexico. Paid $2950 with GL premium. I didn't get a chance to preview it and just trusted to luck. In my case it was a major score with the truck being in fantastic condition with only needing minor work to drive it home. Knowing what I do about these...
Here is another one. Ex-firetruck from rural New Mexico. 1954 M211 6x6. I have the bed off to get ready for paint. I just found all these photos or I would have posted them together.
