k...bad relay it is. Took the relay apart (pried the top off) cleaned all the gunk off with a steel brush (there was alot of gunk). Re-assemble = voltage to glowplugs. Got a good charge on the batteries...took a few goes...truck started and runs like a champ! I'll buy a new GP relay tomorrow...
With the jump to ground (from blue wire) I got no action out of the relay. I'm assuming this is the problem. It's late and no parts stores have what I need, so I'm going to pull the relay apart and try to clean it up a bit. If this doesn't work, I'll try what you suggest Tow.

OK, just jumpered the blue wire (right side of relay) to ground. Got a spark, but no noise. I have 13ish VDC on both sides of the relay at all times....bad relay?
Voltage from the one in the engine bay. I get one click after the wait light has been on for a while, but no change in voltage anywhere. Are you talking about the starter relay under the dash? Was unaware that there was another relay under there other than the starter relay.
I hate to be lazy and not research threads for this answer, but I am very pressed for time...we're getting about an inch of snow an hour.

Fuel filter change and a fuel system bleed wouldn't hurt if you haven't in a while. I'm going with glow plugs for most likely. On the fuel side, could be a bunch of stuff....lift pump, clogged line, bad IP....
I'd start with the glow plug troubleshooting.
The clog had to come from somewhere. Most likely the tank. If you blow all that crud back to the tank, you'll just clog up again eventually.
I would try pulling the pump and checking it. When I pulled mine, it checked good and upon re-installation, I was able to purge in about 10-12 secs...
...oh, by the way. If you get your fuel pump off, you can check it with a little suction. Just cover the ouput hole with your finger and suck on the other end and plug it with your tounge. It should hold a vacuum. And diesel doesn't taste that bad.:drool:
The vent on the top of the filter housing is open while you're doing this right? I have had to manually bleed my system before using a break line bleeder (hand pump style). You can connect the break bleeder to the output of the filter housing and pump until you get fuel. Then, quickly...
Update: I Let the truck sit out last night without the block heater plugged in. It got down to about 25 degrees. Two cycles of the gp's this morning and it fired up like mid summer!
I was having a wierd whinning/hissing sound for a bit, as well. The noise happened all the way up to when the truck would shift, then quit right before the actual gear shift only to pop up again before the next shift. I was also able to hear it a high speeds.

I just did this to my M1009 yesterday. It's easy, and saves your glow plugs. You can connect the top post of your gp relay to the 12v bus on the firewall right next to it and throw those resistors in the garbage in about 10 minutes!
Truck has been starting better than it ever has all day long today. I'm letting it sit outside tonight to get cold and see how it fires in the morning. Still plan on swapping that resistor.
