Barrman is right. And do you have a M1009 or a M1008? The M1009 has no balls in four high due to the 3.08 gears, so regardless of what drive your in, it'll be tough to climb. Four low works very well, but as stated above; will cut your speed and increase rpm dramatically.

The best way to test the relay would be to hook it up and turn the key. Since that didn't work, and the old one still does, you bought a bunk relay. It happens. Return the part for a new one and try again. This relay mod is worth it. That old one, even though it works, will stick one day...

I'd say pull the dash, fire up all your accesories and pinpoint the noise.

Just dropped the pan and changed the filter tonight, actually. I'll drive it to work tomorrow and see if the noises stop. My ticking noise was pretty obvious, though. Hopefully a filter/fluid change fixes it. I'll post tomorrow.

It sounds like you've already bled the system. If this didn't work, you may have air deep enough in the system that you didn't bleed it long enough? Maybe try to bleed some more, but only in short bursts with plenty of rest for the starter in between. If you want to save your starter, you can...
