    Clearing up NO STARTS

I've had the same thing happen recently after replacing my starter....just a click. Turned out the cable from my solenoid had just enough corrosion/gunk on it to cause the problem (on the solenoid connecting side). After a good scrub I'm good to go. Maybe try checking that wire out...

    Questions about my M1009

    4) If you live in the mountains, install a block heater. Fuel filter swap is in the tech manual, and very simple.

    Grinding starter?

Thanks, Parlay! I just got home from work and yanked the thing off again. I'm going to bring it to work tomorrow and to the checks you've suggested. I'll let you know what I find. Thanks again!

    Grinding starter?

Parlay, welcome to SS! Check the above post for what's happening now...any suggestions about the 'clicking' noise?

    Grinding starter?

Well, I brought the starter into advance auto parts because they have a new starter tester that can check 24v starters. The down side is no one knows how to use it. So, after an employee fumbled with it for a bit, he go the bendix to extend but the gear wouldn't spin. Then came the smoke...

    U Joint replacement problem

Agreed! A c-clamp will press both sides evenly and easily. Never thought of that.... Use the clamp you use on your brakes!

Monty, what part number was the bushing you replaced?

    U Joint replacement problem

I just did both u's on the rear shaft. Brute Force joint part number: 2-3011BF. Tankie's method will work, but I've never been easily able to push the caps into the yolk. A big **** hammer is usually needed. What I do, is get a cap in place in the yolk hole and put the end of the actual...

    Grinding starter?

I'm not sure, Barrman. I'd have to pull it apart to check. What if I do/don't?

    Grinding starter?

I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the info! First thing I'm going to try to do is borrow my buddies M1008 starter to eliminate any other possibilities. A starter rebuild would be a welcome, easy fix for once. Thanks again!

    Grinding starter?

Would a solenoid replacement help the bendix extend all the way?

    Grinding starter?

I almost hope it is. At least then I know what it is and don't have to chase.

    M10009 Blower Motor Resister

I currently have my heater pulled and the above is the exact problem. The brown wires connection is burned and the fan will not work. Like Boomer says, common prob.

    Grinding starter?

Alright, I'm having staring issues. When I turn the key, the starter seems like it's grinding or catching on something. I've pulled it and inspected both the flexplate and the starter and both gears are good. I assume it is the starter, but I suppose it could be something else down the line...

How do you know when to change fuel filter?

@Zenocath: Did you make that grill cover on your truck? Looks way nicer than the piece of cardboard I've been using in the winter ;-)

Oil in the with the fuel

I've got to add on here....what type of used oil is OK? I've got a whole bunch of 5W-30 from past oil changes on the wifes car. If I filter it well enough and mix with some diesel, can I throw 'er in the tank and save a few bucks?

Could running out of fuel kill the fuel pump?

Firecontrol, see this post: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/cucv/70527-not-getting-fuel.html Inside it are several ways to manually prime your system and check your fuel pump.

    Not Getting Fuel

I just had the same problem. If you pull the fuel pump (or lift pump..same thing) plug one end and suck on the other, then plug the hole you sucked on with your tounge and see if it holds a vacuum. If it does not, there's your problem. If it does, re-install (carefull of the push-rod...grease...
