You can get the complete assembly or just the plug from www.odiron.com , I saw another vender that had military-to-civilian adapters but can't seem to find it now. If i come across it I'll post that.
If you didn't change the sending unit, then you need to replace it with one for the gauge. The idiot light uses a different unit, just on and off, which sounds like the problem.
I only hooked mine up once, but was able to get RPM, voltage readings, ect.. I don't really plan on doing much more until spring with the truck, so I'll test the capabilities then. Sorry not too much help, but they do work.
I second the votes to not use a tow-bar/dolly. I just got back from ft. Meade on Wed. and hired a roll-back for the trip(@300 miles round trip for @$400). Try a local towing company, by the time you rent something(very doubtful once they see the weight of the truck), pay for fuel and tolls it...
