Sad day for my M1031 SECM...

A vise is not a hydraulic press. It can hold things tightly, but that jaw wasn't designed to be used under extreme pressure.

    overspray

I always tape the glass when painting. Just habit. I know for military vehicles, if it looks too nice, it's not original, but that's what I get for starting out as a teenager with a bunch of muscle-car guys. When they repainted a car they wanted it to look SCHWEET....

Red Ball Militaria and MV Parts Swap Meet - Jim Thorpe PA March 7, 2015

Was at the show 3 hours. Took 8 hours round trip to get there. Dead tired when I got home. Gas money for the trip: $75. Entry cost for 2 people: $10. Items purchased at the show: $21. Overall benefit to start out the year at the first decent show and get to see a bunch of my friends -...

Airborne WWII Era Clark Dozer and LeTourneau Scraper

Love the LeTourneau scraper setup! Those are few and far between anymore, like anything LeTourneau - as time goes on, they are just fading away...

Steel Soldiers MV of the month 2015 - February VOTE HERE!

I voted for Lawrence of Arabia's cherry picker truck. Everyone has a nice deuce and 5-ton these days. I fully subscribe to the old Hot Rod Magazine's slogan that was popular in the early 90s, "Dare to be Different." LoA has done that by restoring something that most folks would pass over.

Anyone picking up in Chambersburg PA headed east towards NH

Stretch picked up one from me in 2009 with his pickup, bought in VA and towed all the way back to OH. He said the trip was...interesting...

Any of you radio guys ever see, or play with one of these?

Here's a pic of a couple others I took a few years back at my friend Bernie's place. You can see the yellow CD version, another less flashy version is on the left.

Any of you radio guys ever see, or play with one of these?

Some more from Wikipedia: "The Gonset Communicator was a series of vacuum tube VHF AM radio transceivers that were widely sold in the 1950s and early 60s. They were designed by Faust Gonset and manufactured by the Gonset Division of L. A. Young Spring and Wire Corp. Models were built for...

Red Ball Militaria and MV Parts Swap Meet - Jim Thorpe PA March 7, 2015

Only two weeks to go, gentlemen. Hopefully this cold spell will break a little bit on the day of the event. I remember in past years, a couple times I got there and the parking lot was half-full of ICEBERGS!

Any of you radio guys ever see, or play with one of these?

Yes, the Gonset Communicator came in several versions, and several paint jobs, but it was common in use during the 1950s and 1960s. The yellow CD paint job is by far the most catchy, and the most sought-after of the Communicator series.

    Allison M916 + Mk48 Cab = 6x6 "FEMTT"

The HEMTT and PLS series trucks are LONG and often tow trailers. Perhaps the reason they have the wide west coast mirrors, is to allow the driver to see wide around the back around when towing, much like you see with pickups that are towing horse trailers, etc. I agree, though, a narrower...

any info on radio switch box SA-2237/U ??

Have this listed for sale, someone is interested in it. However, other than the info on the data plate, I don't know much about it, and Google isn't much help either. It appears I have the only one known to man. :) Anyways, here the info on the data plate, and a pic - if anyone has had...

    PRC-77 Restoration tips and tricks

Took me a couple hours total to do the job of repainting the front cover. Don't make it harder than it has to be. Take off the knobs and covers, tape over the stuff you don't want to paint, and spray bomb the rest. When it's dry, peel the tape off, re-attach the knobs (if they need to be...

2015 SS Haspin Acres Rally Dates, June 10-14th

I'm already making plans for attending Haspin this year, I always have a blast! Daughter's last day of school is the 11th, and then she immediately has to go to her mom's place in Georgia for several weeks, so not sure exactly when I will be there, all depends on how we work out the school days...

M60/M108 deuce wrecker - heavier frame or standard?

Was wondering if the early deuce wreckers, the M60 and M108 series, had double frames or more reinforcement in the frame, or was it just a wrecker body sitting on a standard deuce frame? I know the 5-ton wreckers are double-framed or strengthened more than standard 5-tons, but wasn't sure about...
