It's just a Dana 25, right?
I believe I took all the parts off of a Dana 30 (don't quote me on that) from a mid-70's CJ5.
If memory serves me right, there are less expensive kits out there.
I'll message you the info this evening after work.
I did it to my '71 CJ5 several years ago and merely took all the parts from a spare later-CJ axle my brother had laying around.
It was very straightforward, if memory serves me right.
If you don't have access to an axle to swipe the parts from.......have you looked online for the kits?
They're...
Congrats!
Sounds like you picked a good truck and you're well on your way.
Here's to hoping the rest of the trip is uneventful.
I have "5 ton fever".
So I'm definitely subscribed. :)
Some of my fondest memories of my bobbed Deuce was taking it to get-togethers and shows locally. People would walk right past a Viper to see and feel the Deuce.
The kids went nuts over it.
Hopefully I'll be getting back into the big, green iron in the near future.
Thanks for the responses, guys.
Sounds like you got a good deal, pad_cdr!
It'll be painless to drive and enjoy then sell.
I'll be in touch with you soon, Andy. Trust me.
You being THAT close and having THAT many rigs is irresistible.
Plan one in my devious little mind is to bob one...
Thanks for the response, wreckerman.
The 818 I'm talking about isn't pristine but it is a great driver, super solid and drive so well it's hard to pass up.
I'd REALLY like to bob it.
The lack of air brakes does simplify the "CDL or no CDL" question.
The complexity of the 900 series does...
Thanks for the fast response, Andy.
I've seen pictures of your trucks in the past and can visualize condition-to-price.
Good deal.
I'm guessing the 818 is a harder sell than the 900 series?
Or vice versa?
Hello all,
I was contacted by someone who has a turn-key, super solid M818 with a clear title.
What are these rigs worth nowadays?
Seems the M900 series have captured all the attention lately due to the sea of them up for auction.
I'm hoping this is the right forum for this question.
If...
Hello all,
I have a terrible case of wanting an M923 or M923A1.
Thing is, it needs to be 25 years or older here in MO in order to qualify for historic license plates which GREATLY simplify ownership.
It sure did with my bobbed deuce!
The reason I ask is SO many GL auctions have "unknown...
This is exactly what I want to do.
I had a blast bobbing my old M35A2 (in my avatar) and have a serious itch to do an M923!
I'd REALLY like to know more about the "oddities" of bobbing one of these that you mention.
Brake issues?
Structural issues?
Or?
I'm assuming there aren't many (if any?) of these in private hands?
I didn't want to go climbing all over the one in my pictures to try and decipher whether it "looked" privately owned......I don't think the truck driver hauling it would have appreciate it. LOL!
My daughter and I did...
I learned a LOT in only three responses!
Sorry about posting it under "5 tons".
The size of the hubs, number of lugs, etc. are what threw me.
I know very little about this model of truck but they sure are impressive.
Thanks a lot, guys.
Hello all,
On my way to work this morning, I saw this big beauty on the flatbed in the picture.
There was one at a local car show last year but it was still in service with the National Guard.
My daughter and I got to climb all over it. What an awesome ride.
Anyway, the attached pic is...
MANY thanks for all the responses!
As a previous M35A2 owner (see my avatar) who successfully bobbed and enjoyed that truck for a good while, I know what you are all saying about braking, tire speed ratings and what to expect from these big green beauties.
The fella who bought my truck GPS'ed...
Yes, I am having the itch for an M931A2.
After perusing YouTube and seeing a couple on the highway with GPS on display, I HAD to post and ask what sort of MPH I can expect.
I saw consistent 68-69MPH () on GPS, with 2200 rpm on the tach and the speedo buried.
That is flyin', in my...
I had 395/85R20 Michelins and re-centered HEMTT wheels.
It rode and drove like a completely different truck after the install!
Gain some MPH, less RPM on the motor, no clearance issues, smoother ride, easy steering.....what's not to like?
Quite possibly the best visual C/D turbo identification post I've seen-LOTS OF PICS:
