Have a look at this NHTSA ruling: https://isearch.nhtsa.gov/files/CA_HMMV.html
I think it spells doom for our guys in CA. I also think it is what is behind the state of Illinois' insistence that no HMMWV is eligible for registration. Even mine with a clean SF-97.
The really scary thing...
I mounted up some new (to me) tires on 24 bolt wheels. They came without run flats, so I scrubbed them out and added 8 oz of non-biodegradable airsoft bbs, then installed them with TrailWorthy's pvc bead locks. I'm anxious to see how they ride, but I'm now waiting on a glow plug extractor from...
I bought my truck from GovPlanet. I requested an SF-97 in the checkout process, and received it about a month and a week after the close of the sale. I had no input into it, other than paying for it. It transferred the truck to IronPlanet, not me. This caused some difficulty at the DMV and...
This is the bracket that should be on the front of your starter to help prevent the problem you had. If I remember right, it bolts to the engine mount. There is a stud on the end cap of the starter that will engage the hook shaped hole - helps in reinstalling the starter too.
I had the same thought regarding x-doors. They are getting pricey. But that is why I have insurance. I'm not going to let that worry keep me from enjoying my truck. And I have not met anyone related to the hobby that I felt would steal from me. That said, I remind myself now and then - not...
I'm pretty sure that you can tell a 6.5 from a 6.2 at a glance by looking at the lug that holds the tach drive in place (it looks like just like the lug cast in the block to accept a bolt that holds a distributor in place on a gas engine) If that lug is on the left side, it is a 6.2. If it is...
Mine is 51-1/2" wide at the floor. Where the rear curtain falls is hard to pinpoint, but from where the floor pan ends at the rear seat well to the tailgate is about 53". It is about 47-1/2" along the inside top edge of the rear fender.

I have a copy of the memo you cite from Ruth Johnson, Michigan Secretary of State. Here is a link to it on the Michigan SOS website:

I believe it is rife with errors. Starting with her statement that "The...
My niehoff alternator 1225-1 is rated for 50A output on the 12V terminal. That should be enought to compensate for occasional use of an electric winch, unless you have significant other 12V loads.. The brunt of the work will be done by the battery. The 6T batteries in a HMMWV are pretty...
Your steering problems sound just like mine. I found my Idler Arm was worn out and one of the tapered holes in the Center Link was worn from being run loose. I replaced both and then aligned the front end (The front was three inches out of spec! The rear was OK.) Now my truck runs arrow...
Our neighbor is running to retain her seat in the legislature. She and her husband came up with the signs, shirts and jetpacks, I only had to supply the truck. I jumped at the chance for the kids to be in the parade, and I secretly hoped to make a favorable impression of our hobby on her...
Last weekend I spent a day scrubbing ours, then armor all(ed) the top and tires to get it ready for its debut in the St. Patrick's Day Parade. I got a bucket load of sand and dirt and quite a few shell casings out of the seat wells. Afterword it looked surprisingly good. We ran it in the...
Apparently there are multiple 200A alternators, but if you have a 15v terminal you must have dual voltage capability. Per the TM and manufacturer, my Niehoff N1225-1 alternator with a N3135 regulator can be used as single (28V only) or dual voltage. It has a "14V" terminal that should either be...
