While doing my turbo upgrade in my M1028, I noticed my radiator was loose on the passenger side. At first glance I thought the rubber spacer was missing so I ordered a new one from Chevy duty (or whatever they are now). Upon installing, I found out that the old one was there but it appears that...
Yeah it's a serious problem ;)
That's what I thought, open cell foam like that isn't good at keeping water in /out of anything (works exactly like a sponge). Now a closed cell foam (like the high density stuff they use under houses) would work great. It would both seal out water and deaden...
Turbo almost completed today.
Also, figured out why so many Chevy cabs rust out in the corners.... The strip caulk used to seal the body seams shrinks and cracks, allowing moisture to collect in the cab corners. Second pic is me fixing this issue.
Never seen a write-up on this before, is...
Patched a rust hole behind my drivers side door and coated the corners of my cab inside with cosmoline type product.
Sent from atop the porcelain throne.
Sweet truck. You can use regular pop rivets you buy at the hardware store to reinstall the data plate. Shouldn't be too much trouble, just drill out the ones that are in there now (carefully) and buy ones that just barely fit into the holes.
Hope this helps.
Howdy from New Orleans!
Also, the DIY stuff tends to dry harder, more like a paint. The professional stuff stays a little softer like rubber (and probably dampens sound better).
I've done the U-POL Raptor kit on ebay for like $120 with great results. It doesn't go on real thick the first time, I'd def recommend two coats. Plus it comes in clear (tintable to the color of your choice) or black (I used as a bed liner and on the cab a a couple jeeps). Treat all the rust...
Drove from NOLA to ATL yesterday. Yeah it whines at 60m mph but at least the weatherstrip whistle is gone :D
Next is new floormat or bed liner in the cab.
I know this doesn't really help but probably a loose connection. Best bet is to trace back the wire with a multimeter and check each connection point and wire individually for continuity. My 1028 has taught me always to check the connectors you think are good twice...
Write-up of vent widow and door weatherstripping install is posted. It's a draft with the few pictures I had and all the video links plus parts and tools. If you'd like to see more, tell me what you want on that thread and I'll take pictures and add them as I complete the second side today...
THIS IS A DRAFT. I HAVE COMPLETED ONE SIDE AND ADDED PICTURES I HAVE TAKEN SO FAR. IF YOU WOULD LIKE SPECIFIC PICTURES I AM FINISHING THE SECOND DOOR TODAY, REPLY HERE AND I WILL TAKE THEM AS I GO TO BE ADDED WHEN I FINISH.
I mentioned I was doing this and there were several members who were...
**** of a first truck. Good to learn on for both driving and wrenching, if you manage to bump into stuff (everyone does in their first truck, it's part of learning to back to a trailer, parallel park a tank, squeeze in between a light post and a tree....) you can knock out the dents yourself or...
