Generally, pole barns, hay and fire do not do well together, and like the National Capitol Trolley museum who stored historic trolleys in a pole barn with no built in sprinkler system, history does get lost in such circumstances. Perhaps, gentlemen, now would be a time to...

Wait until you gentlemen start collecting Military railroad locomotives, unless they are the really little narrow guage diesels (about the size of a medium farm tractor), you will really get some pain and suffering on your plate. I have also found that Military tugboats over...

Probably easier to get a 408 or 412 with a diesel already in it, as all your going to do is drop the value of the Unimog by introducing non-standard parts requirements. The diesel S404's had a really lousy MB Diesel in them, the 408-412 series had better engines. The gas...

Congratulations on getting your truck running. Yes, there was a civilian SEE, very few were seen in the states, but Case handled it and you could get many attachments beyond the front end loader and backhoe. They were primarily aimed at farmers and came with a...

OOOPPS, my bad. I do not work with CUCV's, but just about every other military vehicle was (or is) 24VDC. Figures GM slipped that one by me!
Have a Merry Christmas!

If you can't get period correct U joints for the DUKW, any good large truck machine shop should be able to salvage the joint ears and crosses off of a much newer truck, cut and weld them to the original shaft tubes, and balance them out for you. I had a 1989 Ford F250 that...

If the PU driver's at fault, his insurance company not going to like paying for the repair bill on the DUKW given what they go for, and you have to wonder if the DUKW suffered frame dame as well as hull damage. Do the DUKW operators have the seats in the bed fitted with...

Now you can take the Holidays off from your WWII GMC restoration, but have you ever considered doing pickups for Toys for Tots with it? It would make quite a Santa Claus truck. Enjoy your Christmas in Georgia as tomorrow night we are due for a small amount of...

Perhaps using rubber bucketed 24 VDC tractor headlights mounted on bumper clamps on each end of the bumper underneath would get you some backup lights without the expense of LED's? Tractor Supply usually has them reasonable.;-)

Moderators and All:
This has been an interesting thread, but perhaps 87 posts have said it all. Like on Star Trek "The Menagerie" in the scene at the end when the Talosians refer to Captain Pike:"He has his illusions, and you have yours". I do not urge locking...

Before the thread gets locked out, gents, do you figure that the man hauled an M1101 trailer behind it at 85? That should just about catch all the empty beer cans and hotdog wrappers, plus I am pretty certain he must have had "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" playing on the radio...

Probably Chinese made hose clamps, Uncle always buys from the lowest bidder and pays top prices for it. Glad you and the truck got home in one piece!
Merry Christmas!

Congratulations on your repair! Seems like a lot of work to reverse engineer the axles, but then the US CTIS system was never as good as the ones the Russians used on their military trucks, but then they engineered theirs so peasants could work on it.
Hope your...

Interesting, but very expensive! The folks over in India built an Enfield derivative diesel motorcycle that could get 200 MPG....but it wouldn't even meet Beijing's air pollution standards... I suspect that there may still be a place in the military for motorcycles, but...

I might suggest a little air tool oil inhaled into the air intake ports on each wiper, that may free them up some. However, My M422A1 had two vacuum type military wiper motors, and it's V-4 could run one or the other, but rarely both. The peculiar result was one wiper would...

And you can get an Air-O-Matic steering kit for it that is just about as good as a hydraulic system, and it was engineered for the truck! I put one on my M35A2 in the icon, but a gent in Texas is getting the benefit of both the truck and steering unit, plus new tires...

Welcome to the world of GM Diesel! I guess they got the heaters off of the old 1970's Astro tractors, you could generally freeze meat in the cab with the engine and heater running. If like the M35A2, you will probably have to get or make a winter shroud with flap over the...

To the OP:
Good luck, most first and early 2nd Generation HMMWV's did not set any great records for reliability in service, ergo, you and your chief are going to be shelling out lots of money for a truck far below a good M35A2 and with a lot less practical load carrying...

I was able to obtain Deka 6UT Batteries at Paris Battery in Paris, Texas, and they were exact replacement ordnance batteries to what the truck had originally (which were unobtainium Exides), and the truck is likely still running on them. An ordnance battery that is designed...
