818 now with turbo and pics.

What intercooler did you use for the 925?

M923a1 front axle in the rear

That is a common way to bob a 5 ton.

    8.3 turbo discussion

Looking at the Holset manual, its a VGT turbo. A lot of electronics are needed to properly run it. I would check the size and compare it to a HT3B, HT4B and HT60. That would give you an idea of spool. If the turbo is left in the wide open position, it acts like a normal, fixed vane turbo, so...

M925A2 Front Winch Broke under load

I thought the cable was 9/16 or 5/8? It should have a higher working load than 21000. Usually winch cable is atleast 1.5 times working load (20,000 * 1.5) and then the cable's ultimate strength of 3X working load. Thats atleast how it should be rated. I have some 9/16 laying around that has...

    New Fella from PA!

Welcome from NY. Russ is a good guy. Lots of knowledge with CUCVs. When you get settled with a truck, you have to come out to Rausch creek off roading. We try to set up a trip twice a year, in the spring and fall. Also a good show and swap meet is the MTA Sussex show at the end of April.

    Emergency rescue operations M929a2 prep

Funny you mention that. It was going to be my point, as if the engine dies, then your dead in the water. I thought my air filter canister gasket was good but it was not. Air filter got wet and I was done for. Had to disconnect the piping and had the turbo open. Not what you want to do, but...

    5 ton NHC-250 stock EGT’s?

Yup, you are right Simp! Morning coffee hasnt kicked in yet... I default to turbo motors when mentioning EGT probes. Never mind my post.

    5 ton NHC-250 stock EGT’s?

Is your EGT probe pre or post turbo? That will dictate temps you should be running. 1200F pre turbo is the common acceptable limit.

939A2 rear axle hub oil leak

My truck hasnt leaked from the outer hub, but I have teared into the front hubs on my 923a2. Not bad at all to replace the outer hub seal. Have to remove the tire, axle shaft and drum. Then remove seal and replace. But if your taking all that off, I would replace all the seals for the CTIS...

How many seals in the front hub of a 1991 M932 American General?

If your going to tear once side of the front axle apart, I suggest you replace all the seals since you will have to take most of it apart to get to the oil seal. Just did the knuckle boots on my 923a2. first side took 12 hours, second side took 6. There are some good posts on here on how...

    exhaust info needed...

I would go full 5 inch back if you want to gain some performance out of the exhaust. You will have to modify the clamps for the upright section.

    Another 5ton towing scenario question

On occasion, I haul 17k to 18k pounds in my 923a2. I have a dump hoist so its usually fill or crushed concrete. Truck handles it fine but here are my suggestions for above 20k pay load. Dual tires, the super singles are great for off road and up to 20k but the truck gets a little squishy...

    M925A2 Dump Bed Hoist Opinions

Same load as above pic, just to show a differect angle. This is 7 to 8 yards of crushed concrete. From my many loads, I would assume this is in the 38k to 39k gross weight of the truck. She handles it well, just a little slow on the hills. My truck weighs 22k empty.

    M925A2 Dump Bed Hoist Opinions

I would have to agree. My bed flexes a little bit with 17k but not enough to worry about. I would box the main C channels and reinforce the smaller lateral pieces that support the bed. I wouldnt consider the troop bed a heavy duty service dump bed. If you want to haul to the trucks capacity...

    M925A2 Dump Bed Hoist Opinions

I have the same manufacture of hoist, just one step bigger than C&C surplus sells, a 10 ton hoist, ph520. Very minimal adjustments to the bed to get it to fit. I load up 7 yards of crushed concrete at about 16k to 17k depending on the load. That is the max I can dump with my set up. The...

    7th times the charm?

Good to see you picked her up and will finish it the right way. I know you will do a great job!

    Rear differential lock/unlock

With 10k on the truck, you shouldn't have any problems. That's what their rated for in the worst case. I routinely put 17k to 18k on mine and have no binds or weird noises. Maybe a little tire scrubbing on a hard turn up a hill but nothing out of the ordainary. These trucks will flex more...
