Please post pictures if you can. I take it by "duece and a half" you mean 6x6 ? It is most likely either a DDS150 7-1/2 tonner or a DDS235 10 tonner. The DDS235 will have Cleco Air springs on the front, the DDS150 does not. If it has a setback front axle and air springs it is a DDS225 which were...
My thoughts and prayers go out to John Bizal and his family, and also to you, snowdad. I lost my oldest son when he was 13 in 2006. I don't think you ever get over it, you just learn to deal with it. My heart goes out to you.
It turns out that the color photo that started this thread is on display inside the VAB for the public tours they are doing now. As has been mentioned, this was the 1st stage for Apollo 8, the 1st flight to orbit the moon. Here is the placard next to it with some additional info.
I also...
Zout, there are 3 surviving Saturn V rockets that would have been flown on Apollo 18, 19, & 20 to the moon had the moon program not been canceled. There is a restored Saturn V at the Kennedy Space Center in a special facility built to house it. There is also a Saturn 1B (used on Skylab and...
Clint, I don't know if NASA had more than one M26A1, but it is very interesting that one ended up with SECO. I'd love to know where it went from there. Brevard county had a pretty nice M26A1 that they kept in Titusville into the '80's, and I think Beyel Bros in Cocoa still have two. I've often...
Zebede, although they look alike the Sterling and Knuckey dual chain drives are not the same. Sterling introduced theirs in 1931 while the Knuckey came out about 1940. The crane truck rears are not from a Sterling HCS330 wrecker.
I'm quite certain that crane truck is on a modified M26 or M26A1 chassis, it has same Knuckey dual chain drive used on these trucks. I took an almost identical photo of the chain drive on an M26A1 many years ago. That is an interesting crane truck, I hope someone at least saved the rear drive.
That's quite a rare truck you have there. The CF 351, or K18 in Signal Corps parlance, was used as a transmitting and receiving station, and was used with the trailer in the attached photo. The body was by the Hicks Body Company of Lebanon Indiana. If it still has the original engine it will be...
It's hard to say that anything is "original" on a custom built puller like this truck. But that is a GM cab, the same one that both Chevrolet and GMC used from 1939 to '47 or so. So if the owner says it is a '42 CCKW it's entirely possible that's where the cab came from. But everything else...
This is a great photo, it actually appeared in the Hemmings blog about 4 months ago. I don't go back to the Apollo days but I have worked at KSC for several years. I'm certain that the M26A1 and the blue dolly are not connected to the Saturn V 1st stage in any way at the moment this picture was...
That is a very interesting G506 Chevrolet, and it appears to be in very good condition. It is not an original WW2 fire truck, but the Zeligson badge with serial number is very interesting. Zeligson was started in 1946 as a seller and rebuilder of surplus army trucks. In the '60's and '70's they...
I haven't checked in for a while, I see I've been missing all the fun.
Nice find wayofftrack, I hope it ends up in your shop.
As far as the 94th Aero Squadron, there was a chain of these restaurants and there was one at the Herndon Airport in Orlando. It was originally WW1 theme but then...
Capatain, I'm not sure if I can help you but I'll send you an email anyway. I have some some higer res pics of the above, and maybe some others. I want to say the rears were similar to your WLF and KW.
Jordan, that is a great looking Chevy. It looks very well preserved for sitting outside all these years. I found some info on the model, it looks like Cap'n Crank was pretty close. According to some charts in "US Army Vehicles of World War Two" by Bonniface and Jeudy, the G7143 is a searchlight...
