Today I bypassed the thermostatic valve. Temps are finally within range and functioning normal. I looked under my M1088 and it doesn’t have that valve. It just runs both coolers in series. I took some temp pics of before and after. The first pic shows high temp at the input of the aux cooler...
I did add an override and even with the fans running 100%, the trans is still overheating. That makes me think that valve is stuck closed and not allowing fluid to the aux cooler. Going to confirm tomorrow. Hopefully that valve is serviceable.
I may end up doing that tomorrow. I’ll let you know how it goes. Probably should start my own thread instead of hijacking this one. Just wanted to jump on here because there seemed to be some good knowledge on it.
How are you planning on routing that? Are you just going to run both coolers in series and then back to the trans?

Well I guess they are calling the front heat exchanger a cooler also. On this they call that thing a thermostatic valve that directs flow to the aux cooler. I think mine may be stuck closed. Anyone ever have that happen to them or have one apart?

Got the new mirrors installed today while waiting for some transmission parts to show up. Huge upgrade over the stock junk. Cut out and powder coated some 1/4” aluminum plate to stiffen the door. Adding some marker lights and turn signals to them this weekend.
Ran it hard today to do some diagnostics and testing. Went over the whole thing with a thermal imager. Showing equal temps at the heat exchanger under the radiator. I almost feel like this is to get the trans up to temps in the cold.

So you’re saying the trans fluid and coolant go to some type of mixer to equalize temp? That would make sense to me now that the trans fans are controlled by the engine fan.

Found out the aux fan comes on with the engine fan which didn’t work well because my engine temp was fine when my trans was running hot.

I’ve unloaded a lot of heavy equipment off every type of trailer there is. That was by far the worst. Just got it put into the shop. Had to do it in the dark and pouring rain. Got it done without laying it on its side though
