    Moving my Transmission cooler

The first time my trans overheated I was hauling 33k lbs so I thought that contributed to it. Now it overheats just driving the truck for an hour. I no longer think the trans cooler is the problem. After talking to Allison about the trans, I’m gonna be ordering a reman trans and put that in...

    Moving my Transmission cooler

Today I bypassed the thermostatic valve. Temps are finally within range and functioning normal. I looked under my M1088 and it doesn’t have that valve. It just runs both coolers in series. I took some temp pics of before and after. The first pic shows high temp at the input of the aux cooler...

    Moving my Transmission cooler

I did add an override and even with the fans running 100%, the trans is still overheating. That makes me think that valve is stuck closed and not allowing fluid to the aux cooler. Going to confirm tomorrow. Hopefully that valve is serviceable.

    Moving my Transmission cooler

I may end up doing that tomorrow. I’ll let you know how it goes. Probably should start my own thread instead of hijacking this one. Just wanted to jump on here because there seemed to be some good knowledge on it.

    Moving my Transmission cooler

How are you planning on routing that? Are you just going to run both coolers in series and then back to the trans? I’m going to take this thermostat valve apart tomorrow and see if it’s stuck. If it’s not salvageable, I may be looking into running them both in series. I wonder if the reason...

    Moving my Transmission cooler

Well I guess they are calling the front heat exchanger a cooler also. On this they call that thing a thermostatic valve that directs flow to the aux cooler. I think mine may be stuck closed. Anyone ever have that happen to them or have one apart? Even with my fans on 100%, my trans is...

    Moving my Transmission cooler

Do you have any idea what the thermostat valve is behind the transfer case? I’m trying to diagnose my transmission overheating within 30 minutes of driving. Everyone is calling the heat exchanger under the radiator a cooler but I almost feel like it’s designed to heat the trans fluid to get it...

    M1089 Mirror Upgrade

I was thinking I may have to make inside plates as well but I tried it with just some big fender washers and it’s plenty secure.

    M1089 Mirror Upgrade

Got the new mirrors installed today while waiting for some transmission parts to show up. Huge upgrade over the stock junk. Cut out and powder coated some 1/4” aluminum plate to stiffen the door. Adding some marker lights and turn signals to them this weekend.

    M1089A1 Trans Cooler Question

Ran it hard today to do some diagnostics and testing. Went over the whole thing with a thermal imager. Showing equal temps at the heat exchanger under the radiator. I almost feel like this is to get the trans up to temps in the cold. With the engine running at 180-190 degrees, trans cooler temp...

    M1089A1 Trans Cooler Question

Thanks for the response. That gives me some clarity before I get this pulled in the shop. So you’re saying the trans fluid and coolant go to some type of mixer to equalize temp? That would make sense to me now that the trans fans are controlled by the engine fan.

    M1089A1 Trans Cooler Question

Thanks for the replies. Found out the aux fan comes on with the engine fan which didn’t work well because my engine temp was fine when my trans was running hot. Planning on adding a temp switch to the trans line somewhere and having the trans fans turn on independently, and with the engine fan...

    M1089A1 Trans Cooler Question

Newly acquired truck. Haven’t driven it much and haven’t gotten a chance to tackle the manual yet. Drove it today for about 30 minutes then the trans temp light came on. Neither cooling fan was on and no power at the connector. Trans and cooler were hot. Shut the truck down. Turned the ignition...

    M1089A1

Hey Just picked up one of these trucks. Was looking for a manual. Scrolled through the manual section but didn’t see it? Anyone have any info. Not sure if I just overlooked it. Thanks for the help

    M548a1

I’ve unloaded a lot of heavy equipment off every type of trailer there is. That was by far the worst. Just got it put into the shop. Had to do it in the dark and pouring rain. Got it done without laying it on its side though
