It only takes one hub not locking in to give you no front drive. Put it in 4wd, lock the hubs and then jack up one front side at a time and try to turn the wheel. Make sure it is in park. Does the wheel turn? If it does see if the axle is turning on that side, if it is turning then see if it is...
I am not offended in any way. Just trying to help. I don't want to see you spend money needlessly and I don't want you to think everything on your truck is different when it is not and can be bought at the local parts store.
Rick
The tie rods are exactly the same as any Chevy 3/4 or 1 ton with the Dana 60 front axle. As are the locking hubs and all of the internal parts. The rear 14 bolt is a stock civvie item also as is the turbo 400 trans and tranfer case. There are NO mechanical parts that are not civilian other than...
You say the CUCV has parts the civvie trucks do do have, I am curious what. They do have two alternators and a very problematic electrical system but other than that the truck is a K/30 Chevy.
Don't get me wrong, I have one and I have pulled some serious weight with it but not very fast.
Rick
I still think you should check the prices on a regular tow rig compared to what yo will spend converting a 30 year old truck that is going to rot out very quickly once you start driven it regularly.
I judge the M-151's at Aberdeen so I could try to help you out. The problem is that I am not sure I am going to be able to make it and I probably will not know until I get there. I have a lot of stuff to get done before Aberdeen and I only have one day a week to get it done.
Rick
I like the idea of preserving a MV but you are trying to turn one into a Dodge Ram or Powerstroke. I think you would be money ahead to just find a Ram 3500 or F350. That way all the parts are readily available anywhere.

Moving the lower radiator hose will make no difference since the coolant coming out there has to come through the water pump. It will get no lower than the pump ports in the block. If I have time tomorrow I will look at mine to see where they are. I am sure they are the same place as a big block...
MV = Military Vehicle. I like the plate because it comes in handy for moving different trailers that are different heights. I have one with the ball and it works fine. You see, you now have OD (Olive Drab) addiction. You don't know it yet but you do. Ask any of us how this happens and all will...
Tractor supply has the pintle plate but I don't remember if they have the hitch. Just so you know a stock pintle from a MV will also work. I have several of them laying around.

I can tell you that we ran those spacers for years on trucks with 44's and they got hammered pretty hard. As long as the bolts were goodd quality and torqued correctly they were no problem. I did see them come loose on occaision but remember that these trucks were slamming through mud bogs and...
I was out for three days last winter during the last storm in Feb. I did not have the 002 then, now I have two of them! Temps here have been low 20's at night, 20 below the average.
Rick
I do not think they are behind the mounts, Passenger side should be somewhere near the back end of the starter and drivers side should be close to the mount but in front of it. They should not be hard to find looking up from underneath with a flashlight.
On most of the Ford style relays like that if they have two small posts then one is the feed for the relay and the other is an output to feed 12 volts to the coil for starting or in some cases to bypass an oil safety switch. The relay does ground through the base but it has to be bolted to the...
