    Effer knuckleboom for the M923

Here are a few pictures :P. According to the side of it, its supposed to be a Effer 850.

    Effer knuckleboom for the M923

I think the Effer's are pretty sick. Saw someone offloading with a 850 yesterday and it had a sick reach. But you could see the end sagging a bit when it was fully extended. I snapped a few pictures since I haven't seen a knuckleboom with that kind of reach before, but then again the only booms...

    Electric Winch Install

I'm not sure what you are getting at?. If I were I might be able to explain myself out of it, or explain better :). And I was talking about pulling UP a gradient, not at an angle. Pulling at an angle to the vehicle you are trying to recover "shouldn't" add more work required, but it some cases...

    .

Derrick, I will partly take the blame for that misposting. We were talking about electrical winches etc in another thread and the discussion turned to climbing ability and approach angles. I linked to here because people started saying there wasn't any vehicles that could do a 40 degree / 100%...

    Where's the Land-Rover Section?

Garret, I would actually like to drive one of the G-wagons on that kind of test track but I don't think MB would allow it :P. And Graz as in some place in the US or here in EU?. Sorry if I come off a bit ignorant in this regard, but I don't actually know where the G-wagons are actually built...

    Electric Winch Install

True that, I have seen a few clips on youtube where they park one right next to a divider and then makes the HMMWV scale it, and drop down again, so yea I can see that part of my argument is flawed :). But I would think the 40/40 for the wrecker isn't as far of a stretch in regards to actually...

    Electric Winch Install

Kalashnikov, I know there are some video's of hairy recoveries out there. But what I meant was that the number of cases were you would need 3x vehicle weight as the minimum effort required are very few and far between. But like I also just pointed out "more or less" any vehicle can be used to...

    Electric Winch Install

I don't refute what you use as material etc for it, don't get me wrong there :). But I tend to err on the side of assumption that a vehicle that has ie 40/40 Approach/Departure at least would be able to negotiate a grade at that incline/decline and possible more. But at the very least, should be...

    Electric Winch Install

Then you misread what I "said". I didn't say a recovery at that angle was impossible, rather that I haven't heard of any stock vehicle military or commercial that could go up a 72° incline or decline. The only vehicles known to me that is able to negotiate an incline that steep is modified frame...

White engine smoke until operating temperature

    Electric Winch Install

In order for you to get 3x weight as the effort required you would be out where you most likely wouldn't be able to help it anyway. If you look at my previous calculation it is as "accurate" as it can get applying only math. But a truck etc in burried in deep mud up to the buttom would only...

    Where's the Land-Rover Section?

I don't hold Landies with that high of regard. The general consensus I get when I ask about them is that when they go they go and that they are good offroad.... when they work. If something breaks be prepared for the big wallet to pay. BUT that might just be related to the more "modern" Landies...

British Army mastiff (copy of our Cougar MRAP) defeated by Taliban in Afghanistan

One of my military driving instructor has been on several tours into the sandbox and has been hit 4 times by IED's. Once in a Piranha/Stryker, once in a Leopard A2 MBT, and once in an MRAP Cougar and I cant remember what he was inside the 4th time. But 3 out of the 4 hits the vehicle they were...

    Electric Winch Install

M936, M936A1, M936A2 has a 45,000 pound rear winch. All other models has a 20,000 winch on the front according to the 5-ton TM. All the numbers I us come from the 5-Ton TM. For this "experiment" I am using the M931A2 and the M936 as the 2 example trucks as they are the lightest and heaviest...

    Electric Winch Install

I have the danish army wreckers guide sitting in front of me right now. If someone wants me to I can whip a little number for how much pulling effort would be required to "unstick" a 5ton buried in mud :P

Well a Deuce weights more then 10,000 does it not?

Hmm I wonder if that would fit on a Deuce <.<

    Electric Winch Install

I take it the 5-Ton PTO/Hydraulic winch is rated for more then 10,000 then as opposed to the Deuce Winch??
