That is the governor which pushes on the throttle, generator has to run at a fixed speed.
Only the cool kid M1031 get it [emoji16]

I am in the middle of taking my stock M1031 setup and swapping it out for my old M1010 drive.
I am going 12v so Leece Neville 555JHO on the passenger side, bolts in. I was going to reuse the factory Fridgidair compressor as they are rugged and pump a lot at idle...but...they suffer from crank...
First post back after many years!
M1010's are cool but man do they suffer from neglect in the electrical department. I think you really need to figure out if you want to stay 24v or go 12v. Cannot proceed until you make that call.
24v is awesome for cranking power, jumping the other CUCV's...
Hey guys
I live in Kittery area and work in Westbrook. Looking to rent space somewhere between those points along I95. I have a CUCV M1031, a matching Suburban, and a Samurai. I'd like a big enough space for one if not two of them inside with a toolbox. All vehicles are registered and...
What do you want to do with it? If you want bigger tires and offroad capability it will probably pay dividends to shorten it up. You gain everywhere. If its for general use you get into too short of a wheelbase to haul, stop, or carry anything which makes it useless. No one is swapping in one...
First I would not bypass the safety switches. They are easily obtainable and really keep things from getting messed up. Spend a little time cleaning and adjusting here. As for the rest of it, my recommendation is stop wasting any more time with it and just spend the money for the controller...
I would also check the rivets on the frame. The 2wd Suburban I converted to a CUCV clone had some loose ones up front that were tough to see. The rivet worked loose slightly and elongated the hole in the crossmember. These big floppy C channel frames like to work themselves loose over time.
I run the HD springs in my M1031 and Burb too. They are a good match for the heavy diesel, ride is good for a straight axle truck, flex is great, and they are pretty affordable for an off the shelf spring. At minimum you will need the usual shocks and brake lines. You can buy the ORD braided...
I think Dodge guys have fluid issues (and Jeep) because the NV3500/3550 and NV4500 both require a special New Venture fluid that you get at the dealer. I believe there are only a handful of other fluids that will work, Royal Purple and Pennzoil Synchro something are known compatible. Any other...
So then why are stating an idea like putting gear lube in an auto trans which is complete rubbish? This only creates confusion and clutter. NP205 runs on ATF or 75-90, end of story. Only the short bus usual suspects on here have to create a freakin science project out of something so...
Would an automatic run on gear lube? Apparently you have never taken one apart then. An auto trans is not just gears and bearings. It has friction discs which are engineered to work with a specified fluid that has a specified friction which guess what...works specifically with the friction...
It's a set of gears and bearings...pretty sure it will be happy with any lubricant in it. The 205 will accept either one and be happy with no ill affects.
So I'll throw a bone into your explanation. The T5 Tremec 5 speed came off the line with gear lube just like every other manual trans in...
The ol' M1010 had too much metal work to be done so I had to do the nasty and gut her for the running gear. I did save the box just incase I want to repurpose it somehow down the road. I decided to build a Suburban CUCV/Dante's Peak clone. It's almost done, just lots of little things to be...
Convert whatever the oil cooler line fittings are which I think are O-ring on the radiator and flare on the engine but that's off memory. You buy adapters to go from those to whatever size line is required and make the lines yourself.
I just put a set of AC Delco's on my 6.2 Suburban...not impressed with the fitment. I may end up doing this anyway but if I'd have to do it again, convert to AN and make your own lines.
The fact is that if some vehicles have it and some don't means it isn't really a mission critical item that is going to cause catastrophic damage regardless of the cost to install. Some of the cases I've seen have a mounting boss cast into the housing with no threaded holes so at some point New...
Just want to point out again that I have yet to see something built in the last 20 years have anything remotely close to a torque rod on the tcase, never seen one on a Japanese import truck, nor anyone adding one aftermarket. I think arguing over the importance of the torque rod is like picking...
A mated manual trans is probably difficult to find just because of the low production vs. the automatic but LKQ probably has a million 6.0/4L80E combos ready to go out the door from bare to dressed for cheap money. I don't think I would even waste my time trying to find a donor rig unless one...
If I was going with an LS there is absolutely no way I would keep the TH400. It's a great trans but will do that engine no justice. It robs power, has terrible gearing, no lock up, and no OD. The good news is that you can beat the bag out of it and it will have those attributes forever. If I was...
