All of my TM's have different procedures for serial 300xxx and up, so unless there is some sort of weird exception I think it's a pretty safe rule.

ABS may not be the best option. It tends to expand and contract with temperature swings. I was actually thinking about trying to make doors out of the solid PVC sheets you can get from Home Depot. It's something like $130 for a 4x8 sheet of PVC 3/4" thick.

It's corrosion. One of mine was really bad, I had to cut it off with a sawzall and then replace the pivot. You may have better success if you are more patient than me and use lots of penetrating oil and/or heat.
