98G is right. I've topped out in mine going 69 mph, though the engine was screaming. 55 mph makes for a great cruising speed around 2200 rpm. The 395's make for a good ride imo. Expensive and heavy though.
So I just read this whole thread. This is crazy! I've worked on the multi-fuel replacing head gaskets and a melted piston, but never on a cat engine, so my experience ends there, lol.
Sorry to hear about the starter. It's a shame there a douche bags out there scamming people like that.
Have...
I guess it really depends on what you plan to do with it. Just drive it around for fun and maybe some parades? Gonna use it to haul some firewood or do odd jobs on the property?
Myself, I would stick with a diesel engine. There's plenty out there that will make that truck giddy on up and then...
That's what I did. I went with 00 gauge wire and it's definitely heavy duty. Don't remember who I got it from but it wasn't cheap either and I got six feet of it which was just enough to go from the batteries to my shutoff switch.
It was pretty thick. I'm still washing off from under the truck and that was 8 months ago! It was fun and I was happy see I wasn't the only one who drove a deuce there. I ended up pulling people out once they got stuck more than anything, lol.
Most of the big military surplus shops are pretty good to deal with. Definitely lots of good people on here, that's why I decided to buy my truck from a SS member. If anything, swap the radiator out and if you do, might as well replace the hoses while you're in there, keep them for a spare as...
Honestly, your radiator looks decent from the pics. These radiators don't usually fail. My first deuce had a crack along the fill tube on the tank. I just used some solder to fix it and it never leaked again for the next two and half years I had the truck and I made some long drives with it...
I finally got registered for my first parade on Memorial day. I'm excited about it. I'm gonna have a ton of kids in the back and they are already stoked about it, lol. I'll be up in Grand Rapids MI though.
Yup! I tried that by myself after watching Garret from Tactical Repair do it, but I just hit the starter button now and it usually takes 2-10 taps and it'll turn over. Not often, but once in a while and it's annoying but not annoying enough to buy a new starter and the labor just yet, lol.
Oh okay. It's the starter. Keep hitting the starter button continuously. Mine does that once in a while. Likely due to a dead spot on the solenoid or starter. Sometimes it takes a tries, other times it takes a while of hitting that button. Could even give the starter a good tap and see if that...
