Basically, the hole at the bottom of your picture (the inwards-pointing one) belongs onto the third manifold bolt/stud from the rear of the engine, and the other hole (the one that points outwards) gets onto the fourth stud from the rear.
Here´s a pic taken from the left hand side. You see the...
By the way: Those pawls that activate the switches on the 4spd: Are they available separately ? They are not shown on the figure in the parts TM, so I don´t have an NSN.
One of my 4spd shifters was missing one, so I made one myself, but I would prefer an original one. Because of the zinc...
You can actually drop the transmission and transfer without ramps. I just did that. I put a sling around the front of the tranny, through the open doghouse hole, and onto my gantry crane, and used a transmission hoist at the rear of the transfer.
Once the tranny is on the ground, you can pull...
Zeke, I understand your frustrations. Electric gremlins are hard to grasp sometimes.
BUT, there are thousands of Humvees running in civilian hands now, and 99.9 % run on 24 volts, and do so without problems. So your problems can be solved, it´s only a matter of finding the right solution (or...
Strangely, besides the slantback frame with "ears" and the softtop frame, there must be a third type of A-frames, which I didn´t find in any of the TMs:
The M996 and M997 hardtop ambulances have an A-frame that doesn´t have "ears", but it also doesn´t have the holes on the outside for the...
I also ordered one of those update kits. I still hope to get my R12 system running (with R413 as a substitute refrigerant), but it´s good to have a backup plan in case that doesn´t work. Thanks very much for the hint !
Sorry to revive this old thread. Never say never, that´s right..... Seems like the german army is now upgrading from Wiesel 1 to Wiesel 2, and in the process, 15 Wiesel 1 hulls were (accidentially ?) sold before the authorities stopped that. The hulls are cut into six pieces and totally empty.
I...
Here´s a pic from Govplanet were the routing of the A/C tubing is visible :
The tubes come down from the A/C compartment, cross behind the commander´s backrest, and then go down through the body right before the backrest. There´s also the double wire with the voltage for the A/C compressor...
From the compressor, the A/C lines run outboard of the R.H. frame rail, and then pass through the body at the little horizontal area in the body step beside the commander´s seat, above the rearmost cable hole in the inner sidewall of the battery box. I can look up some pics tonight and post them...
The blue/white light thingy is definitely not from an M997 ambulance, and I think it´s not from an M996, either. Those had separate blue and white lights at the ceiling, respectively. The white lights had a different glass pattern in the M997, too.
I´m not sure if the M1035 soft top...
On vehicles with the dual-voltage alternator, you should NEVER switch on anything when you´ve unhooked just one battery ground. You´ve discovered the reason: With the ground connection of the rear battery removed, the alternator and every 12 volt accesory (at least your transmission, and any...
I just had my first technical inspection here in Germany, and was surprised how low the percentage of smoke particles actually was in my vehicle. Something like 0.5 % of the permissible value. So seems like a Humvee can be adjusted into a clean machine (wasn´t me, I got it that way) .
I guess...
When comparing slantback kit prices, you have to be careful to see how complete they are. Even if the main components are there, if you have to buy all those small parts extra, you´ll easily spend a few more thousand $.
I´d try to get as complete a kit as possible, even if it is more expensive...
Granted, the Dortmunder beer is not the very best german beer. It used to be more famous for quantity than quality, but most breweries have closed down by now anyway. One of the leftovers have a "premium" pilsener which is quite good in my view.
The HAWK site sounds very interesting indeed...
I´m pretty sure that when the Dortmund/Hengsen missile site converted to Patriot, those Patriots were Bundeswehr (german army) missiles, no longer U.S. ones. So in the 90s the site was manned only with Bundeswehr troops, as far as local rumor went.
I guess one reason for this was that Nike had a...
The site was near Holzwickede-Hengsen, near Dortmund. Basically protecting the Ruhr area against those expected russian bombers.
That site was situated in the British zone of occupation, but I´m pretty sure that it was manned by US troops in the 80s when it was still a Nike site. As kids, we...
That´s an amazing bit of information, thanks very much ! I´m always collecting every information about the US Forces in Germany during the Cold War in the 80s. I grew up just a few hundred yards from an air defence base that first had Nike Hercules, and then Patriot missiles. Probably, that got...
Sorry to chime in so late, but as far as I know, those MAN M-1001, etc. trucks were mostly used for supporting Pershing-II missiles and GLCMs (Ground Launched Cruise Missiles) in the European theater. Both were deployed at about the same time in Germany around 1983. I´ve seen MAN tractors...
