I’ll give this one a try. I’m guessing you have an 800 series truck since you have the Cummins. The 800 series doesn’t have an in tank fuel pump, so it relies on the pump at the engine to draw the fuel all the way from the tank(s). The end result is they can drive one nuts if there is an air...
One can get that wear pattern if the toe-in is off. If the front tires are toed-in to far it is like driving on the outside edge of the tread. The front of the tires should be about 1/8” closer than the back. The measurement and adjustment must be done under load; the tires have to be on the...
Actually I have two of them. They are powered by a Briggs and Stratton 18 hp engine. They have three water lines, one is for supply from tank, one for return to tank and the third is for delivery. For fuel they are supplied like the generators or space heaters. If you are interested in one send...
The first time I had to do an EUC the nice young lady told me it would take at least two months for my first EUC approval. I mentioned that just perhaps with the security clearances that I have had over the years it might be a little faster. She was adamant that it would take at least two...
There is an inspection cover on the drum for checking the shoes. If the wheels were mounted correctly the plate lines up with one of the holes in the wheel, if not take off the wheel and pull the cover on the drum. It is also used for checking brake adjustment.
With standard air brakes I adjust the slack adjuster down till the shoes are up against the drum then back the adjuster nut back one half turn. That leaves about 1/32” of clearance between the shoe and drum. Without looking in a TM I should think that 1/32” is a good start.
It can be done. The problem is getting air to the trailer. If it is and old M127 with air over hydraulic it would work without brakes. However a newer trailer with double diaphragm brake chambers would need air to release them. And then still no brakes for stopping. The best route would be to...
We used to call them jack shaft bolts. They used to loosen all the time and we had to check and tighten them all the regularly. I think Bjorn is correct about the lock nuts, but I also think that the bolts get stretched and loose torque over time. Any good quality grade 8 bolt and nut will work...
You’ll probably find that the safety chains will be to short. Just use a couple of lengths of 3/8” chain and some shackle bolts. The rings that the hold the safety chains on the trailer are big enough for the shackle bolts. It’s always a good idea to tape down the air line, unused power cord and...
I’m somewhat surprised by the fear of split ring wheels. I’ve broken down and put together more split rings than I care to think of. I use three wedges and a sledge hammer to service them. I’ll have to get some pictures, but I use three wedges that are only 4X4 angle iron 5/16” thick and 4”...
Just have to remember overall height. For commercial trailers that are 13'6" 5th wheel height can't exceed 47 1/2". When I towed a 12'6" trailer with my 818 the overall height was 13'4"'.
Just my 2cents worth. I have never been one for additives over the years for my vehicles. However, there is one that I have found that actually works. It is called 44K by BG Industries. A friend of mine who turns wrenches for a living recommended it for my K3500. That truck had about 150K on it...
I don't have any ideas of tank placement. For fuel contol you could run the lines thru a fuel valve like the ones in an 818, it is placed on the floor by the parking brake lever. That would solve the problem of supply and return. And a switch on the dash L-R fuel for the gauge, also from a tractor.
I would leave them as they are. The 600 gal. tank has two pins that line up with the next tank in line which gets them pretty close together. As far as filling, just connect the tanks together with a line that would run under them anyway. That way they would fill at the same time, just have to...
