In thinking about it, the valve itself has some pretty small holes inside under the diaphragm. IIRC, it's primarily servicing the CTIS, so it may mean slower filling tires. And the lines coming out of the valve are pretty small too. So it's probably a problem of volume, which may not be too bad...
I found that the pressure protection valve from the wet tank on my M1081 was leaking where the two halves are assembled. No gasket in there. Made a gasket and was reassembling the entire christmas tree of fittings in prep for reinstallation onto the right angle fitting on the tank. I noticed...
Thanks for the tip. I've got the toe in dialed in pretty close, used my dad's old folding wooden carpenter ruler. But will check it again. Also, the outer edges of my front tires are worn funny, the toe in was over 3" initially. Not sure that would make a difference, but may swap front/rear tires.
Saw that listed yesterday, glad it went to someone who can appreciate it. My thought thought: you've got a whole heap of work ahead of you. Will be interested to hear how it goes!
Note that in nearly every incident in the video, the tire or wheel blew sideways, inline with the rim, perpendicular to tread rotation, but the tread did not separate. Some of the clips showed the tire moving inline with the tread because of how the tire was placed or propped up.
When I was in...
And the wrap-up on this saga: Took Goliath for a drive this afternoon. So much improvement it's unbelievable. I'm comfortable at 50mph where before 40mph was spooky, what with the sawing back and forth and wandering across lanes. There's a little wander, more like inertia from the giant tires...
Coming back together
And success. Gear box is installed and left front tire is reinstalled. Steering seems smoother with little to no slop, but there's no load on the front tires yet.
As mentioned, it IS possible to remove and install the steering box without removing the radiator, you just...
Tear apart on old computer hard drive. The magnets that are used to position the heads are very strong, as in "don't get your finger between two of them" strong. They look like part (1/4 - 1/:cool: circles and are glued into the mechanism. 3.5" desktop/server drives have larger magnets than the...
WA to MD!!! You couldn't have found something closer like Aberdeen or Meade? (Says the guy who bought his 2nd hand less than 20 miles from home. And scared self silly with sloppy steering)
In addition to my M1081, I've got an older RV with the MD3070 version of the Allison. I looked at my WTEC-II manual that I have, I had to troubleshoot DO NOT SHIFT in conjunction with some additional codes that were dependent on speed sensors. Good power and ground are critical for the ECU and...
Steering box on the ground. Ugh, heavy!
Empty spot where the steering box goes. Note that some bolts are still sticking out a little, they couldn't be removed, too much junk behind them.
Looking up from behind the front the front bumper, in front of the radiator. There's six bolts on this...
More notes from today:
1. Army mechanics aren't very studious. The left front brake was dragging as noted previously. Why? Both shoes were installed upside down, with the marking for "Adjuster" up against the fixed stop. Had to flip both shoes. Additionally, one of the two retraction springs was...
Probably a Paris-Dakar (or some other high-speed off-road) pre-race truck. Those racing trucks are a riot to watch, and Red Bull sponsors some KAMAZ trucks like the one pictured.
Starter has a flat spot from non-use. Most of the time the starter is on a good spot to fire off, but occasionally it stops rotating on the bad spot. And when on the bad spot, no start.
The 8.3L Cummins in my RV had intermittent start issues. Pulled the starter, had a local Mennonite shop...
Update on the wandering steering this afternoon:
1. Engine running, truck on all four tires on hard packed earth (parking spot for Goliath) - steering wheel would turn about 1.5-2.0 turns and stop turning. Tire would turn from straight ahead to maybe 10 degrees left turn. That's all. Had this...
Power steering fluid was drained/refilled several times while replacing hoses and reservoir but will check this weekend.
Suprman, you've pretty much convinced me it's the box. Weak power assist while stopped and play while driving, especially at higher speeds. Steering box.
Q: Can the...
Crazy the folks in the area that have MVs. There was an event several years ago in Manassas, lots of recreators and vehicles. Maybe when I'm operational we can have a get-together with other operators!
How is your M1081 doing? Many repairs?
