Air pressure (a rag at the filler nozzle tube and 3 to maybe 5 pounds of air) will help.
Cranking and if it will run - a high idle is a good plan too.
Otherwise the video will be your plan... Hope it goes easy.

I could rant for hours...
Sad part is somebody participating should know better.
I would still lock it down and not count on police security.
No reflection on the PD, but watching trucks could easily be abandoned for something more urgent.

It's no fun, but looking at that 4th picture - I think some good old fashioned elbow grease and some anti-oxidizing paste would help. If that looks that way then my guess there are other places that look the same. Disconnecting the battery terminals before you start might be really smart...

Well said @kendelrio !
I do the same - and I definitely agree about being tired after a show. Lots of lifting and "standing in the way" as they climb back down. But the fun of doing it makes it all worth while for sure!

There is nothing like being able to light up your world when working on a project - or if a tire problem surfaces!
Definitely like having the ability to turn on the stobe effect if you end up on the side of a heavily traveled road...

Welcome to The Outfit!
No more lurking...
Time to get to work on your New-To-You truck!
You will definitely need to download the Technical Manuals.

AND, like @kendelrio mentioned, we need pictures!

Scope out what @chucky has on the front of his truck.

Another guy @Gunny 0369 with a Sherpa has a warning about how you want to bolt it to the truck...

These trucks in their native form with 4 batteries and the 100 amp alternator just aren't happy sitting around. They have a vampire drain and if they sit for more than two weeks - you will need to charge them.
I'm assuming that "taking out frustration" means that you gave the starter a "Love...

The search engine here is "lacking" in most folks opinion.
Using a commercial search engine sometimes does a better job.
EXAMPLE: (plug this into your favorite search engine)
site:www.steelsoldiers.com " MEP701A"
Tells the search engine (DuckDuckGo, Google, Yahoo, etc) to search site...

Welcome to The Outfit!
You mentioned being a proud owner of a New-To-You M817, so we need to point out that we have the books for that vehicle. Might be a good resource for troubleshooting and general maintenance... Link Below...

Welcome to the Outfit!
You are posting under the "Requirements for New Members" section and that is a great place to "get your feet wet" here and figure out how the system works. Chance are that you won't get a lot of replies about Mobile Electrical Power here though. It might be worth...

I know for sure that I have seen HMMWV's with fiberglass "caps" on them.
As far as speed goes, just plan on 55 and be happy unless you plan to repower the truck.
If you need to run on the Interstate, install some strobe lights up in the top corners. You wouldn't have to be obnoxious with the...

Agreed that they look similar.
The link you sent was for a "two point" and the one on the truck is a "one point".
The link looks a lot like the LMTV handle.
Might be that I could spend the time to remove one and get more details.
Maybe a casting number or something similar...
