    Humvee Starter / Flexplate Teeth

Welp it looks like I’m unfortunately back to the drawing board. New starter came in and it’s still doin the same thing. What I did after attempting the first start is rig my phone to record the action. On the bright side, it doesn’t look like it’s grinding against the edge of the teeth. What it...

    Current EUC Wait Time

I called govplanet on Monday, they told me they had just submitted the SF97 paperwork to the USMC a few hours ago, and that it was a back of 150 of them. Their estimate to get the batch back is another 30 business days. So at about 48 business days in, they had just at that point submitted the...

    M35A2 Windshield Rebuild

Wow now that is mint condition. I’d feel bad even keeping the truck outside with that condition of parts lol. Should freshen up the truck a lot though, always satisfying to keep adding pieces.

    Humvee Starter / Flexplate Teeth

Random thought, I feel like that worn fork surface could absolutely be the issue? Since the TM calls for a specific amount of endplay when the solenoid is engaged? Even though it looks like it fully engages when I bench test it, I feel like this could be causing partial engagement when under...

    M35A2 Windshield Rebuild

Glad to see this old thread is still showing somewhat resourceful, really need to give the ol’ deuce some more attention. New humvee has been in the restoration spotlight as of late :P If you need any parts, my first recommendation is big mikes motorpool, he’s helped me with several things and...

    Couple of oil questions (mechanical)

Wait - Ignore me, I read "oil pump" as "fuel pump" in your post 😂 Dealing with too many pumps as of late... anyway, I'll leave my previous response up for anyone else that might have to deal with the injection pump.

    Couple of oil questions (mechanical)

If you're talking about the 12 point ones on the outside, I just did a pump swap recently as well. The top was easy obviously, the sides took a little bit of tedious effort. I did my best to wire wheel the studs on the timing cover before attempting to put the pump back on. That made it a LOT...

    GovPlanet Humvee Arrival and Inspection

Doing some minor work while waiting on a new starter, that tangent can be found here: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/humvee-starter-flexplate-teeth.210931/ Spent some time unbending radiator fins, quite tedious but I'm satisfied with the result. Used 2 flathead screwdrivers and just...

    Humvee Starter / Flexplate Teeth

Sounds like a 13MM socket wrapped in a rag being held by channel locks while sticking a hex key through it will remain my preferred method then 😂

    Humvee Starter / Flexplate Teeth

The amount of threads and questions I've seen with this: nopics So yep, I'll continue to take pictures for all the other souls that will inevitably venture onto this thread and others seeking the same help I did haha

    Humvee Starter / Flexplate Teeth

Was thinking the same thing actually :P I can't see any differences between either side. I gave Mac Motors a call, they've got a pretty hard to beat price on DLA reman starters. Haven't had luck with finding the seals either, and new solenoids don't seem to come with that main outer rubber...

    Humvee Starter / Flexplate Teeth

That was in fact the ticket, got it all apart now. Is it possible that my fork could be the issue? There is a rather large flat spot on one side of it compared to the other. I haven't noticed anything else that's too drastic yet.

    Humvee Starter / Flexplate Teeth

Yea it seems like step 1 is what I'm missing here, going to see if a deep socket and allen key work to substitute for that tool.

    Humvee Starter / Flexplate Teeth

Clearly I have done this all backwards and the hard way so far, I removed the spring clip and collar from the armature shaft while it was still in the housing. I did remove the two hex plugs and pivot pin for the fork, but my fork is still connected at the top. I'll pull up this procedure in...

    Humvee Starter / Flexplate Teeth

Alright so my issue was that this thing had to come apart much further than I thought to remove the bendix. I'm close to having it removed, but I'm a little confused with the solenoid/fork removal, as this is where the existing precision adjustments have to be made? It's neat seeing how this...

    Humvee Starter / Flexplate Teeth

I clearly have no idea what I’m doing 😆 A deuce brake booster rebuild was a piece of cake compared to this lol Anyway, I think I’ll buy a used take-out for now and slowly rebuild this one as a learning experience. That little spring clip holding the collar was beating me for a while too haha...

    Humvee Starter / Flexplate Teeth

Hm wow lots of good info. I can go ahead and order a bendix to swap then, looks like they’re about $25. Anything else under that bendix cover that I need to be mindful of when removing?

    Humvee Starter / Flexplate Teeth

Another thought.. my start switch has been bizarre since I got the truck. It doesn’t go very far into the start position, and sometimes I have to release it slightly for the truck to start. The fuel shutoff solenoid circuit seemed to be finicky with it. The starter always sounded strong with...

    Humvee Starter / Flexplate Teeth

Yeap that’s definitely on the list, and I confirmed the cable that I did the not-so-great solder joint on. It’s labeled 81A. What I may do is try those larger style crimp connectors instead of attempting to heat up a super thick cable to solder to. I’m still not quite sure what the purpose of...

    Humvee Starter / Flexplate Teeth

That’s awesome, thanks! I have a theory that this could in fact be a shim spacing issue like you mentioned earlier. In the videos on my previous post, the bendix clearly has no issues fully kicking out to the collar on the shaft. If you look at the photo attached in this post, the wear marks on...
