5 ton Buying tips-Help for Newbies-What to look for and what to be prepared to fix.

Have you ever heard someone say that it is better to see a truck/car/boat/etc. before the owner did his quickie restoration job on it thereby hiding the truck's/car's/boat's/etc. flaws? Well, that is the problem with inspecting a rebuilt truck. EVERYTHING looks good. Check out the motors...

I have read a lot not sure to buy

I am not at all impressed with the rebuilt trucks that have come out. Things seem to be half-a**ed. This is coming from a guy who owns several of them right now. I prefer the original M939 series trucks that I own over the rebuilds. Sure, the rebuilds have some nice features, but I have been...

5 ton Buying tips-Help for Newbies-What to look for and what to be prepared to fix.

Make sure you inspect. Assume you will have work to do no matter how nice the truck looks...and possibly especially with the rebuilt trucks. I am not going to divert this thread by posting horror stories that I and others have stated, but I will summarize those posts by saying that there were...

    MY new truck M934.Info needed.

I almost never go with synthetic. I have read that it is better and lasts longer, but I am not sure that most of us would notice with the limited mileage/kilometers that we drive our trucks. However, some guys swear by it. With that said, I use only synthetic in my Mercedes daily driver, but...

    MY new truck M934.Info needed.

Do they have NAPA in Belgium? Or any of the other large US auto parts chains like CARQUEST, PEP BOYS, ADVANCE AUTO PARTS, etc.? If they do, I would think they should have the filters. Stick with good brand name lubricants. For oil, go with 15W40. For the gear lube (t-case and axles), use...

M35A2 still on U.S. active duty?

If the past is any indication of the future, they will probably be trickling out for another decade. It is almost as if Uncle Sam has no idea where everything is. I have seen M123 tractors come out in the last 5-8 years when they were supposed to be out of inventory in the 90s. Also, I saw...

    Purchasing a M113 APC?

After talking to guys who had to give up their M114s because they bought they from museums or other organizations that had gotten them without release paperwork, I'd suggest steering clear of it. Sure, it is a dream vehicle (I share the same dream!), but without paperwork, you'll always be...

    m939 Heater Core

JUANPRADO, you are in LA and it is b**** hot much of the year...and fairly mild the rest, right? :-) Does it really get cold enough to warrant a heater? Just curious. Jason Frisch (HALFTRACK), also located in Metairie, removes his heaters as soon as he gets a truck for this reason. I'd check...

Deuce Over Heated Today. Low On Coolant?

I would look into the problem a bit further to determine where the coolant went.

Well, I applaud your ingenuity and I am happy you are home safe. I can't wait to hear the rest of the story.

M105 questions for South Carolina owners

I'll second what DOGHEAD said. I, too, have GULFWAY insurance and I don't think they insure our trucks to haul trailers. Be careful, and double check that. If you get into a jam, it would suck to find out then that you are not insured.

I am sorry, but I no longer have the truck.

    Took my trailer out camping

I am curious about the type of trailer you used.

    Draining Fuel Filter - M923a2

You probably did this, but, if not, I suggest filling the filter with fuel before you put it on.

    Rattle can'ing a M923

That looks like CARC to me. In fact, I have never heard of a military truck coming out without CARC in recent years (at least trucks that were in recent service...I suppose there could be some exceptions). I would figure it is CARC and take the appropriate protections.

    Draining Fuel Filter - M923a2

The older M809 series filter was considered an upgrade if you can believe it! These trucks originally came with just the spin on filter. Most were then upgraded to include a small in-line filter. I have not found any documentation for this, but I believe they found that the little in-line...

What's a good way to verify whether or not am M923A2 has lockers?

Yes, the A1 and the A2 look almost the same. There are outward differences, however, most notably the A2s have four front lifting shackles, CTIS on the rims, and the bottom of the differential housings are flat (rounded on A1s). There are confusing things, though: I have seen a few rebuilt...

What's a good way to verify whether or not am M923A2 has lockers?

I have never heard of an M939A2 having lockers. The Army did not use lockers, and the USMC never used the A2s. The Navy did and they normally followed the USMC with lockers on earlier vehicles, but a USN Seabees truck that I had did NOT have lockers. I was hoping, though!

    Greetings from Quebec, Canada

I am sure you are correct because I don't have any personal knowledge to the contrary, but I thought I read on this list that some deuces that came out somewhere (maybe HI) that were so equipped were used for prisoner transport. I believed it at the time because I had no reason not to, but that...
