Has anyone converted a 6.2 into a turbo charged unit?

With all due respect, there were over 280,000 HMMWVs built and at least 1/2 are likely to be released to the public. There are plenty for the purists to restore and plenty for others who want to go off roading and such too. Relax a little...

I think the next batch might be all blue but black would be so cost prohibitive in the volume I am doing to make any sense. The AN fittings are just not common in black. Besides a lot of OEM hoses on the HMMWVs are blue!

Update: All orders have been shipped and the last of 4 initial kits was sold locally. I was able to build one additional kit which is now available as the paint dries. I will be building more kits but as the demand seems high I will be taking pre-orders to give people a guaranteed place...

Yes all these engines have the same uneven cooling issues. The GEP engines have improvements to reduce the failures common in the earlier 6.2 and 6.5 GM engines but they still run hot in the back cylinders all the same.

Has anyone converted a 6.2 into a turbo charged unit?

I have done this with the N/A 6.5 by making a custom 'T' that connects the OEM exhaust manifolds to a custom Garrett turbocharger that sits in a similar position to the stock GM7 turbo. The Garrett is light years better than the GM7 as far as efficiency and is also much physically smaller which...

\ I was hoping for closer to $200 but there is a lot of fabrication and welding time so kits will be $250 each which includes everything you need, even gaskets.

OK I have everything done for 4 sets. Once the paint is dry I can show the complete kit both on and off the truck. The first 4 will be followed by larger batches as demand is determined. I have put together a step by step 'how-to' with pics that will go with the kits.

FLU419 SEE HMMH HME Owners group

I just air up my stock tires to 40PSI and I go 50 MPH on my county roads. If it starts to oscillate, stop counter steering on just hold the wheel. The driver is causing the hunt by counter steering too aggressively. It is just like pulling an unbalanced trailer, once they get going you are...

    Humvees sold/remaining to be sold

They still scrap a ton of them. They just sold off 50+ for scrap ONLY, no parts salvage in Utah. Nice A2s and later slantbacks with turrets etc... almost made me cry...

Well a little late now. They should be in next week. In the mean time I am machining up more of the weld fittings which takes time.

Unfortunately I think the Chinese took the term 'breaker bar' to mean something else as I have broken every one I got from there.

So just a little update. The only hold up right now is AM General as luck would have it. They are supplying the new block off plates and are delayed. Here are a couple of pics showing the custom fitting that will be TIGed to the new block off plates, the AN fittings and the AN hose. More to...

    Cooling upgrade system.

No I dont drill and tap the flat block off plates as putting a fitting into a thin plate and hoping it seals and is pointing the right direction is questionable at best. I machine a weldable bung fitting and TIG weld it to the plate and use a swivel AN aluminum fitting so you place it in the...

    Cooling upgrade system.

The difference between what I am doing and the others is they drill and tap the coolant plates, I TIG custom machined fittings onto new plates so there is no chance of leaks and so sealers etc are not needed. Further the other systems tie into the heater circuit which I found is limited to...

So guys I am thinking of setting up a pre-buy or deposit for those that are ready to buy and that will fund getting all the parts together. We could use PayPal so your money is safe. Thoughts? Pictures will take a little time as I am waiting to get my truck back from the paint shop. Although...

FLU419 SEE HMMH HME Owners group

Before I go crazy digging all over my SEE I though to ask the group if they have been down this road. I have had everything working great on my SEE. The air system is perhaps too good as it goes to 150PSI if I am not careful to release some pressure with the hand trailer brake or emergency...

    Cooling upgrade system.

My kit will fit all three types. It is really an absolute must on the 6.2 to have half a chance. The 6.5 is less susceptible to the long list of ills found on the 6.2 but still greatly benefits. Anything you can do to cool a turbo is needed. Even with all the updates on the GEP engines they...

    Cooling upgrade system.

I dont have pics at the moment as my truck is getting painted. I will provide pics when I get the truck back and I am planning on making a few more kits but that is one of the reasons I posted to gauge the level of interest. I took digital temps across the heads prior to the mod and after...
